Do you keep your moto key separate from all of your other keys and carry it alone in your pocket? (This is mainly for those that use there bike for commuting.) I tend to keep the key separate on fun rides, as it is easy to carry it without loosing it then, but when going to school and work all my keys are attached and the area around the ignition is getting scratched up from all my keys moving around. I have been looking for a little protecting pad thing to go on top of the triple clamp, but can't find any for the FZ1.. any idea of what you guys do to not loose the single key and not scratch up the triple clamp?

I got my moto key separate from my non-moto keys, but it is attached to my disc brake lock key so it's not quite solo.

I had my USB memory stick crushed by my triple clamp and gas tank. That was enough to remove the excess stuff.

Riddle me this.
I keep my moto key on my main key ring. I only have about 6 keys and no little trinkets so it's not an issue. If I kept the moto key by itself I'd be more likely to lose it. As for avoiding scratches...my bike is already covered in them.

i keep all my keys in one of those clips

i pull out the moto keys when i ride and i'll hook them back up (or sometimes leave in pocket) when i get off, i dont ride with my entire collection of keys in the ignition, thats just too many keys flopping around and probably get caught b/t the tank.

well if we're being that specific, i also keep my disc lock key with the ignition key....and the trunk/gas key as well :D

Actually, I go both ways. I have a set of keys (ignition plus hard bags) on my regular keyring for my ST2, but always use a separate key for the 888. But I also have a separate pair of keys for the ST2 on a Ducati key fob that I use on longer trips. The ST2 has protection all round the ignition key so that extra keys can't scratch anything. The 888 doesn't, so it gets a key all by itself.

I would have checked a third answer of "both" if you had provided that choice. :cool

I've got my ignition key, disc lock key, a single house key, a soft (fabric) keychain, and a crucifix. I commute daily with the bike, but it's not blingy, it's barely even a desirable bike. Thus scratches on it doesn't faze me! Haha...

I use to have just a soft foam key pad to make it easier to find, but I'd always lock myself out of the house whenever i forgot to put it on my pocket before i took off.

i keep my bike keys alone.... i got one for the ignition, one for the tank cap, and one for the trunk... 3 keys in one bike:laughing

Bike key & garage door key on a simple single ring. No fob. Keep essential keys in roll bag on a separate ring. Day-to-day key ring is devoid of bike key. Disc lock key only accompanies the bike when needed, so it's not attached to anything. Sits in cabinet awaiting need.

Thanks guys for all the ideas:thumbup I just went and bought a small carabiner from outdoor world for $1.49, now I can use the key alone when riding and attach it to main keys when not riding.. seems to do the job.. just a bummer it has already gotten scratched around the ignition in only 1 year :mad

gone for now
up until now I've always kept ignition keys on a separate ring, but the KTM has a different key for gas tank and ignition. I might keep them together, not sure.
