found a couple more grants i could comment on. posting here again for piggy-back if anybody wants to copy/paste. Also, a lot of the cities are asking for funds to maintain their OHV parks or build new ones, so i'll have to go through those eventually too... so many!!! haha

I did the standard OHV trail maintenance/improvement comment but also noticed they're applying to make a digital map of OHV trails compatible with mobile devices and GPS units, pretty neat :thumbup
Education & Safety - Owlshead
I strongly support this grant application because it will make OHV trail information available digitally to a wide audience and encourages responsible trail riding by providing detailed routes.
Education & Safety - Young Riders III
I strongly support this grant application because the funding goes directly to educating young, new, and first-time riders on proper trail etiquette, safety and environmental stewardship.

same as above

County of Yolo
94-6000548

I strongly support this grant application because it will fund the planning of a new county-owned OHV park. Yolo county does not currently have a location for OHV riders to legally recreate, causing illegal OHV-related activities to occur in environmentally sensitive areas and private property.

The plan includes provisions for stakeholders meetings and feasibility studies that will allow the project to be moved forward responsibly and with transparency.

City of Marysville
94--6000368

Ground Operations
I strongly support this grant application because the funding goes directly to maintaining and improving Riverfront MX Park so OHV visitors can enjoy a high standard of safety, security and enjoyment.
Education & Safety
I strongly support this grant application because the funding will go directly towards providing training for new and young riders and also for emergency medical equipment and staffing at the OHV park.

I have hit quite a few of the same one Owl did...

Now I am on to Law enforcement.
basically saying:

I do not believe that OHV money was intended for Law Enforcement.
My monies should be going towards maintaining the OHV system of parks and creating new opportunities for the tax payers that provide the funding.

From the grant webpage (http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1164 )

The Grants Program supports the planning, acquisition, development, maintenance, administration, operation, enforcement, restoration, and conservation of trails, trailheads, areas, and other facilities associated with the use of off-highway motor vehicles, and programs involving off-highway motor vehicle safety or education.

The grant program specifically states that one of the purposes is enforcement.

I can understand your view of not wanting the money to be spent on enforcement, but the fact is that there is a component of enforcement for OHVs. Enforcement frequently verifies that they have paid for a current OHV sticker and they have equipment such as a spark arrester. Enforcement sometimes has to get involved when OHVs enter restricted areas and cause damage to habitat or wildlife. I know that some agencies frown on their personnel enforcing laws they do not receive funding for. I am not against law enforcement receiving funding for OHV enforcement and I think there are ways to help ensure that the funding is only used for OHV enforcement. That being said, I think it would be great if there didn't need to be any enforcement and all the money could be used for maintenance and additional opportunities. (I do not believe that my agency receives any OHV money, asks for OHV money, yet regularly responds to OHV complaints, and violations).

Thank you for getting this information out, and I also hope all the grant money is used towards furthering OHV opportunities.

$ for nothing

Wow you got through in an hour ? Early on I was thinking BARF needs a grant writer that would put themselves in the grant as an administrator for $49.20 an hour like one I studied. But after an hour I realized we need more like KTM guy and the Butch who will read this stuff :thumbup. Thanks for the post, you guys broke it down nicely for my simpleton desires. I'm used to the AMA Legislative Action emails that are like 1 click write my name and email a few words.
Budman the Barf has as good a reason for the $ as several of the request that I read:twofinger

Metcalf is under "Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department";

They have three (3) grant applications; I just sent this, three times:

This taxpayer would like this grant funded because the County Motorcycle Park provides a local recreation and exercise opportunity as well as a unique outdoor experience. The trails are laid out in such a way to coexist with the flora and fauna. Species there, some endangered, are thriving.
