OHV grant money requests need your input

There are an amazing number of people with their hand out for OHV monies. The requests/proposals are now open for public view and comment. Take some time and give your feedback on why or why not these should be funded.
Tell'em :thumbdown or :thumbup and why

Here's the link to review and comment:
http://olga.ohv.parks.ca.gov/egrams_ohmvr/user/home.aspx
The link above will have a link for a 2 min tutorial to show you how to navigate and feedback.

In particular look at the grant request for Central Sierra Nevada Conservation who has it in for El Dorado NF riding. They asking the OHV Commission to fund their little corporation and pay them full time expensive salaries. The CSNC interest over the last 30yrs has been to attack OHV use any way they can. They are one of the key groups trying to close Carnegie OHV state park. They want your money to shut you out! :mad

You will be surprised how much impact your John Q Public feedback has in this process. Please take some time and pick out a few to read in the areas of your riding and interest and send in your input as whether or not you feel they should provide any funding and why/why not.

How about all the county sheriff departments and city police. Don't already pay taxes for this service? Many of those areas have no OHV areas :wow

So they have hooligans on motorcycles, how is this different than hooligans on bicycles, cars, or on foot? Seems like gold diggers to me :thumbdown

Anyone else take a look at the requests? Post up so I can award atta-boy tokens :teeth

Seriously, take one hour and put it to the cause, thanks. Your vote here will have more significance than in presidential election. You'll be 1 in 5,000 compared to 1 in 100,000,000

Yes, it's very important to give negative feedback as well! Look at the cities of Sacramento and Fort Bragg asking for enforcement grants when they don't even have an OHV area. There are many other requests for money to keep local riders off closed or private land. I send in a opposition comment on any I find that do not directly involve a place we can actually ride.

On the positive side, BLM is asking for a grant to purchase land that will extend Cow mtn all the way to and across hwy 175. This will be used for a new staging area that will be easy to get to and will provide more trail miles.

Wow... that sight is not easy to navigate or comment on. Sent neg comment re Central Sierra Nevada Conservation. Jist, appose funding of any sort to the Center as inappropriate. Center has no successful long term experience managing, restoring, or protecting public lands, only fighting to close public lands to the public. Closing isnt managing, restoring, or protecting. Will go back in to comment on Cow Mtn.... all the time I have to day for this. Whew...

Edited; this is amazing. Some of the folks have nothing to to with OHV. Napa needs OHV Grant.

Holy moly. :(

Dirt bike money being pillaged. :wow

I don't know what to say. Is this how it is suppose to work?

Or do these departments already get paid to serve a few.
Wonder how many are enforcement vs. Support.

This "BLM - Ukiah Field Office" is a 1300 acre expansion for Cow Mountian.
My comment:
"I support this grant; it would ease the recreation burden on the land and local population while adding economic vitality and a venue for exercise and enjoyment of the great outdoors."
And
"I support this grant. Proper maintenance of an OHV area provides a habitat for indigenous flora and fauna better than most other human uses."

We gotta shut these guys down:
68-108508 Center for Sierra Nevada Conservation

Their project is "monitoring", etc.

My comment will be something like... I strongly oppose funding the subject organization. Their proposed activity is biased by their agnda to eliminate OHV recreation. This is not what these grants are intended for.

Tomorrow is comment day for me.

All of the police folks already have funding. Sticking their hands in the cookie jar for free cookies??

Thanks for the heads up on the comment period. I am using the following for all the "law enforcement" requests:

I feel grant money should be spent for opening new OHV areas or improving existing trails and facilities. Law enforcement, while important, should not rely on this type of grant funds. I do not support this grant request.

Feel free to use or modify for your purposes.

made a couple comments. posted in case anyone wants to piggy-back off my writing. oy, there's so many!! i tried to re-use as many comments as i could, basically anybody asking for money to clean and maintain trails/parks got a big :thumbup same for any emergency responders :thumbup

i don't have the patience to conduct due diligence on all the organizations asking for money but i did read through most of the important bits of their grant applications (purpose/scope and expense analysis).

Center for Sierra Nevada Conservation
68-108508

I strongly oppose this grant application because there is no provision made for sections E. List of Reports and F. Goals, Objectives and Methodology/Peer Reviews.

While it seems the CSNC has taken great care in detailing their "proposed restoration," this proposal lacks transparency because they will not publish any reports and do not have clearly stated objectives. In other words, it would be difficult to monitor the work being done and verify it accomplishes anything worthwhile.

These grants should not be free money.

Clovis Independent 4 Wheelers
27-5454486

I strongly support this grant application because CI4W's proposal is for direct maintenance of OHV road and trail maintenance.

Adventure Trail System of the Eastern Sierra Inc.
45-3959969

I strongly support this grant application because it directly funds the maintenance and improvement of OHV trails.

County of Del Norte, Community Development Department
94-2254126

I strongly support this grant application because the funding will go directly to improving, restoring, and maintaining OHV trails.

California Trail Users Coalition (CTUC)
95-4690961
4 total applications (wrote same for each one)
I strongly support this grant application because the funding will go directly to improving, restoring, and maintaining OHV trails.

Desert Group Search and Rescue Volunteer, Inc.
77-0360048

I strongly support this grant application because it will directly fund resupplying emergency medical equipment and upgrading new search and rescue technologies.

Bucks Lake Volunteer Firefighters Incorporated
47-4026995

I strongly support this grant application because it will directly fund the purchase of safety equipment and medical supplies that are vital to emergency services.

Ebbetts Pass Fire District
94--1619280

I strongly support this grant application because it will directly fund the purchase of safety equipment and medical supplies that are vital to emergency services.

International Racing Rescue Crew
45-4526360

I strongly support this grant application because it will directly fund the purchase of safety equipment and medical supplies that are vital to emergency services.

CEMX INC
45-4092533

I strongly support this grant application because it provides direct and clearly defined funding that would enable CEMX, Inc. to keep CEMX open providing a viable, safe, clean, well maintained and well managed regional OHV recreational area that benefits the public.

City of Tehachapi
95-6000801

I strongly support this grant application because the City of Teachapi will use the money to continue development and construction of a 13-acre motocross park to be utilized by local residents and visitors.

This project is for by designing and constructing an effluent disinfection station at the motocross facility which will use the effluent for dust control and landscape irrigation. This station will make beneficial use of secondary effluent from the City's 1.25-MGD wastewater treatment plant.

This proposal provides a sustainable beneficial use for otherwise unusable wastewater. The motocross park will need water, why not use as much recycled water as possible? This will be beneficial in the long run.

California Recreation Alliance
45-4125925

I strongly support this grant application because it will directly fund opening and operation of a 100-acre OHV park by leasing existing timerland, therefore requiring no ground disturbing activity. Coastal Mendocino County currently has no legal OHV opportunities for off-road enthusiasts so adding this 100-acre land will take the burden off private- and protected-land, reducing trespassing, environmental and monetary damages.

Desert Tortoise Preserve Committee, Inc.
23-7413415

I strongly support this grant application because it directly funds the restoration of protected habitats for sensitive wildlife species. The project will also install protective barriers to prevent unauthorized (intentional and unintentional) trespass from adjacent OHV routes.

I have hit quite a few of the same one Owl did...

Now I am on to Law enforcement.
basically saying:

I do not believe that OHV money was intended for Law Enforcement.
My monies should be going towards maintaining the OHV system of parks and creating new opportunities for the tax payers that provide the funding.

I find it interesting and some of the BLM uses get huge Fed $$$ and yet here they are asking for our tax money for additional enforcement. It just does not feel right to me.

This is the BLM that mucked up the Clear Creek deal.
I read one where they receive 600K for patrols and they are digging in for another 36K from OHV... that just is.. :rant

I am not hitting their development pieces... even though it feels like this is still wrong.

"I do not believe that OHV money was intended for Law Enforcement.
My monies should be going towards maintaining the OHV system of parks and creating new opportunities for the tax payers that provide the funding.

The BLM is a federally funded program that should not be reaching into the pockets of tax payers for misc. brochures, computer upgrades or whatever else they can put on paper to take funding from the OHV treasure chest."
