I have the ohlins superbike cartridges on my 05 gsxr 1k and want to find some instructions on changing out the oil myself. Any one know where step by step info might be found?

Thanks in advance, Tim

Tim,

The Ohlins stuff really needs to serivced often. When doing the oil change, they need to be taken ALL the way apart to make sure the pistons aren't clogged. You can do them yourselves, but I recommend taking them to a suspension expert.

Hmm. thanks Ken. How often would you recommend for someone like me not pushing the performance envelope. It has been almost a year but they sat for a few months while I was mending.

Ken saw the oil that came out of mine after NOT being changed for 9 mos--it was HELLA nasty--I thought it was a once a year deal--apparently more like 6 months

The performance center at Roseville cycle did mine-I would highly recommend them--NOT only does the oil need to be changed--but everything should be cleaned well also, like Ken said, let the experts handle it

Just an Fyi...Joey Israel currently does not work for Ohlins. He is currently employed by http://www.amfmotorsports.com/ Eric Gulbransen and I used Joey's services while we were racing on the East coast at Loudon Raceway. Joey is more than happy to work on his previous customers' suspension. Just give him a call at the shop and work out the details. He's extremely reasonable on the shop rates and service.

If your looking for someone a bit closer that is an awesome suspension tech and tuner...give Ray Perez a try (RJPracing). He's out of Bikeworld Motorsports in Sunnyvale. Ray is currently the suspension tech and tuner for Grant Riggs (Jelly Belly racing), Chris Siglin, Harley Barnes and a ton of other top AFM guys. His rates are really really reasonable, plus he's always at the track!!

I saw Jason Perez's cartridges blow apart!
Lots off pressure with nowhere to go when the ports clog! Just expanded the aluminum cartridge tube and broke them apart.
There are fixes that help a lot, but they should still be checked regularly at first at least. A good idea for ALL forks, but the smaller the ports the more susceptible.

Call Dan Kyle (866) 667-4925 and have him do it. He is the largest Ohlins distributor in the states and knows them inside & out. He's done wonders for for for the Ohlins setup on my bike !
