So the old season is done. Let's begin anew.

Lots of questions going into next year. Will Jumbo resign? Writing on the wall for EK?

How will Pavs be after the damage he took in the playoffs. Who of our kids will we resign?

Are we ok with Jones another season?

After seeing him at the basketball game with Logan the other day, I'm hopeful EK might return. :laughing I know thats a stupid thing to base longevity on, but I'm a wishful thinker, damnit. :laughing

Jumbo will be back, IMO. He's still got the drive. He looks old, but the kids on his line definitely awoke him and he proved he still has it. I want to see him back, fo sho.

How will Pavs be after the damage he took in the playoffs. Who of our kids will we re-sign?

Two concussions in such a short period is nothing to mess with. I want him to be ok before he's back on the ice.

Depends which one we get. I'd almost be ok with them going into camp with an open competion. Maybe that would light a fire under his ass.

I'm not so sure i want to commit to EK. He's great when healthy and on the ice. But will he be healthy when it counts? Is that something worth 8+Mil/year for a bunch of years just to see him not play?

As for Jones, i'm on the fence. We need someone who can make those great saves when Burns makes his 4-5 mistakes a game.

Jumbo, i want him to play, only if we can field a team to push for the cup. I don't want to see him play his heart out on a mediocre team.

I agree on EK65. I think he's a great player and makes us a better team, but at what cost? With all the free agents coming up in the next 2 years, is he worth that 8-10M to us? I don't know.

Jumbo will be back. Hopefully for even lesser money haha. I love that Jumbo has embraced his role on the 3rd line. That's the type of buy-in we need to stay competitive.

Of the UFAs, I think Donskoi and Sorensen are gone. I'm not sure about Radil or Heed, but given that both had 2 way contracts, they seem like easier re-signs.

I'm ok with Jones. He didn't make as many big saves in the playoffs as we needed, but I think Jones was the scapegoat for our shitty defense. Are there really that many better goalies out there? If so, are they even available, and at what cost?

Pretty sure EK will demand more than 10M per. It'll be a tough signing for Wilson. And exactly right about his health...that groin injury is what ended Cheechoo's career. Every time he gets hit, whoever he's playing for, the fans will hold their breath.

otoh, *when healthy*, he's a guy who changes everything on the ice with his skating ability. His talent comes along once every decade or so at the most. It's really hard to ignore that carrot. Especially if Doug holds true to his personal goal of giving Jumbo another shot at a cup.

The actual monetary cost will probably be the determining factor in if he stays, and I don't see him taking a discount for the Sharks, as cool as they are.

pretty much. the teams who have great goalies go to the playoffs. it has to be a special situation to get one of them.

in other news, they brought Boucher back as assistant coach/defense. IMO he was missed last season. They didn't seem close to shut-down as they were, but they scored more goals.

Dammit...at the end of the day the Sharks are a damned good hockey team. They have a shot, albeit not always the best shot, at the cup each year. But they put their hats in the ring. Not sure if I really want them to tank for a star rookie or something.

Word is he will be offered $11mil a year for 8years.

When he's got his legs, yes, I'd be ok with that cap hit, however, there is a lot of uncertainty once you have surgery on a groin that has torn multiple times. :cry :cry Damnit, what the heck

Sharks signed Karlsson! 8 x $11mil. So pumped about that. I really hope Thornton comes back for one more year.

That's one hell of a gamble. Haven't even seen how his recovery will be before dishing out that cash. I've heard reports it's 11.5 mil/yr.

His injury isn't that serious and groin surgery is typically very successful. Groin problems that linger are typically those where the player doesn't elect to have surgery.

Braun traded to the Flyers for draft picks.

I guess it makes sense, that we will need cheap kids to fill the roster out with the cap space.

I really liked Braun....a lot. I think he was the ideal pair for Pickles.

Braun was solid, but unspectacular. The talent levels of the young players coming up these days is so high that I think a veteran that doesn't distinguish himself is going to have trouble keeping a roster spot without taking a pay cut. The minute Karlsson signed, Braun had to go. Likely Donskoi and a few others as well.

Wow. I don't even know how to process this. Half of me is very excited, while the other half is concerned. I think EK65 is worth the $11.5M hit. But 8 years really scares me. We're going to be a team of comprised of half All Stars and half AHLers lol. If we can win a cup or two in this span, it will all be worth it. If not, this is deal will be hanging around our necks for the next decade.

Sucks to hear about JB. Every year he's been getting better and more reliable. Underrated shutdown Dman. He will be missed in SJ and I wish him the best in Philly.
