I got next Friday off for free, and I want to hit up an SVRA that's a little distance away to make it worth the trip. Any recommendations or anyone want to join me? I'm thinking Hungry Valley right above Los Angeles would be a good choice since it looks like a pretty big place, so 2 full day's worth of riding would cover a lot of ground for sure.

Interesting spots, looks like good trails up there. And yeah, Carnegie and Hollister are around the corner, but I wanted to see what other people were thinking, same for Pismo.

How are the laws when it comes to out of state riding? I think I read somewhere so long as your stuff is registered in your state, then you can go to bordering states without needing a permit as long as your stay is under 15 days, is this correct?

I think it's specific to each state, but I believe all our neighboring states honor each others registration.

I think in Nevada your technically suppose to pay for a out of state "green sticker". Its the same coming into Cali for out of staters. From that I assume its the same everywhere. I haven't done it not been called out on it either

I would recommend the Wilson Canyon/Walker River area, riding for days out there!
You can either dry camp at Wilson Canyon: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/carson_city_field/blm_programs/recreation/wilson_canyon.html
Or go the plush route and ride from camp/cabin: http://www.wrresort.com/

Regarding NV OHV trips, from http://nvohv.com/faqs/
Can I ride in Nevada with a registration from another state?
Yes. Registration of an off-highway vehicle is not required if the vehicle is registered or certified in another state and is located in this State for not more than 15 days.

The Ridgecrest area(Jawbone, Wagon Wheel, Ballarat, Randsburg) has some fun stuff. I believe they got some recent rain as well. About 1/2 day drive to get there.

That reminds me, some people were saying Hungry Valley may not work out because of the mudslides, but I checked I-5 and it doesn't appear to have any issues at the moment, nor can I find any information about it. Anyone else know whats up?

All the more reason to avoid the OHV area closest to LA...

Stonyford got rain on Sunday. Perhaps Georgetown or Middle creek got some as well.
G-town has an event on saturday though. (family endure)

Hollister got rain on Oct 1st, but didn't do anything for the trails when I went there on Oct 3rd, so I don't think Stonyford would be much better than 2 weeks ago, which was super dusty.

I also decided that I want to go to Hungry Valley, since I didn't have more time to plan for this trip. If anyone wants to go, look for the old Honda bike!

As much as I would LOVE to go to Carnegie, I am trying to make it a goal to ride everywhere and explore everything, so 3 day weekend is a good chance to get away. Carnegie will definitely be another day, say next weekend?

Poor Tommy. Right now there's goons on quads with beer dispensing hats doing donuts 15ft away from his campfire yelling "WOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOO!!".

Dude... Ok, so I had a blast at Hungry Valley this weekend, but I rolled in Thursday night around 1am, and went to sleep in my truck, wake up, go pay, come back to my same campground, no one shows up until the afternoon so I had the whole park to myself and had an awesome time.

Today rolls around, I'm waking up, a large group of latin folks park next to my campground and start setting up. As I'm cooking my breakfast, they're idling their quad for 30 minutes and start playing their music already, like dude? Another guy shows up with a polaris razer 1000 and starts doing donuts in the campgrounds kicking up dust everywhere.

Also it's terrifying coming around a corner and a quad is also ripping around the corner and he is as wide as the trail, or going around and running into a side by side or a jeep

Sandy as shit too, tore up my wrist today and decided to leave today rather than tomorrow.
