NUVIZ Helmet HUD

The clip-on device to a helmet that fits your noggin is a better proposition than the other way around.

As for directions, again, a buzz inside my pocket at pre-programmed easy-to-miss turns it's all I need.

Looks better than the Buggs Bunny Martian Helmet the other system uses.

Probably buy one if I hadn't just upgraded the GoPro or listen to music when I ride.

Looks like someone paid attention and isn't trying to sell yet another bubble helmet.

I'm hoping that it can work with a modular helmet and doesn't get knocked out of alignment with the up slap down motion of the moveable part.

"music, photo/video, navigation and communication". Here are some things I don't want when I'm motorcycling:

* Music
* Photo
* Video
* Communication

Navigation sure, but I'm one of those rare people who reads a map before he leaves.

Well, I'd just chime in, as I mostly agree with this. But voice comms on the road are, IMHO, a safety boost rather than a hinderance. Sure makes agreeing on a place to eat a lot easier.

A guy on the LDRider email list has one. Says the company refunded all the indegogo money when they couldn't make production deadlines, but then offered them to the same peeps at the same price when they finally got them done. That's good customer service anyway.

When he starts reviewing it, I'll chime in again.

i like the idea of heads up display, but believe it will be implemented through transparent oled screens mounted on the inside of the visor. also will act as an antifog insert and be dimmable and will plug into the comms units already mounted to the helmet. include speakers for the helmet that incorporate battery cells to compensate for the display. let's go sena you should already be working on this

There's a few reviews popping up here and there

http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/nuviz-issues.1242280/

It's heavy. To be fair, all the reviews before mentioned this, but I dismissed it as being insignificant - I've worn heavier helmets than what I have now (L Shoei Neotec) and have never had any issues before. But I quickly discovered it's not the weight, it's the balance. All that weight causes the whole helmet to dip to the front right. Of course the buckle on a helmet is meant to keep it from coming off of your head, it's not necessarily meant to cinch it down, so tightening that doesn't help. I found myself constantly adjusting my helmet, only to have it slide back down. It's subtle, but it's enough to notice. And of course as it slides over time, you're constantly adjusting the angle of the HUD.

that bothers me.

I like the fact that it can work with any helmet. It gives it an added flexibility so you are not having to buy whatever helmet the HUD is built into as with other developments in progress. Hopefully this will be the start of a technology that improves overtime (in a relatively short amount of time) that will get smaller, lighter and cheaper. Got to start somewhere.

I'm happy that people are putting forth effort to evolve motorcycling and it's creature comforts. This first iteration though isn't something I'd jump on but probably wait to see how future models evolve. When SENA first came out with their only comm unit, it was big and bulky (in comparison to what they provide now) but I latched onto it.

I never thought it would be realistic to answer a call or make a phone call with my helmet on but with Sena, the tech is already here. You have to try it before you kick it to the curb.

For this Nuviz unit, I at least have to see it in action. There isn't one vid yet on their site - I would think that's the only way you could attract first adoptees is by showing how it integrates with a rider. Kinda failed there. Plus, they say less distractions - tbh I think it creates more disturbance because even if you don't have the thing on, there's a huge plastic knob in your view.

If I could create something out of thin air - it would be a HUD visor that could be helmet specific. Have a unit that can be pulled down over the visor when it is fully closed for operation (like an air vent on the front). Who knows, maybe 10 yrs from now? :ride:rolleyes

Some guy was saying he did this like 5 years ago.

Literally taking a mini handheld stick of gum size projector and projecting your phone screen directly into your helmet visor
