The cat was freaking out, so I went into the room to see why. This little guy was on the roof peak in my backyard. :thumbup When it flew away the wing span was at least 4 to 5 ft across.

For size comparison, those are 2x8 fascia boards :wow

Just wait until you see one hit a quail at 60 mph. Its awe inspiring, plus they eat the whole carcas minus the feathers.

Shannon and I think its a hawk. She shoots the eagles for the newspaper every year, and that has more of the hawk profile. They can get real big and really fast.

A member from another forum Im on took these in the summer of 06'. Hes from Juneau, Alaska and he says the eagles would fly down on the deck and eat the cat food right out of the bowl. Really somthin you dont get to see everyday.

Im really surprised that eagle doesnt eat the cats.......our neighbors cat in Reno got picked up and carried away by an eagle a couple years ago right off his deck.

When I first saw the picture, my first thought was that it's a falcon.

any of you from the Monterey Bay Area hay remember this story from about 3-4 years ago. i couldn't find the archive of the article in the Herlad so i'll give you the short version.

two of these bad birds (a mated pair) flew into the area one day and nested in the letters up on top of the Embassy Suits hotel, the one at the turn off from Hwy 1 for Laguna Seca.

no one really knew the pair was there, right away, but if you know where i'm talking about then you know there's a small pond right next to the hotel in between it and Hwy 1. the pond supports 7 distinct types of bird with frogs, squirrels and gophers in the mix, too.

you can probably see where this is going. the falcons started hunting and, as one poster said above, leaving just some feathers and the odd leg or beak and a puddle of blood. :wow

some of the hotel employees and guests began finding the carnage and reporting it as animal cruelty to the local SPCA. took 'em two weeks to figure out it was the raptors.

when i was driving past i'd always keep my eyes peel for a glimpse of them in flight. i prolly shoulda been watching the road bbut watching birds of prey do their things it an incredible sight. :teeth

word....I always wonder if I'm gonna crash as a result of looking for/watching falcons and hawks and shit by the side of the road

Ran into this one a few mornings ago ...
