They just bought all your health data so they might as well have all your financial data as well. There really need to be better privacy laws in this country.

Doesn't look like it will solve much. One thing needed is a convenient way to pay for goods without some greedy intermediary taking 2 or 3 percent.

And speaking as an expat, financial institutions that can operate across borders would be nice. All the technology is there and governments could co-operate to make it possible, but they refuse to.

It creates challenges around managing money laundering and currency manipulation.

HSBC used to offer banking accounts and services for expats.

Coincidentally, they were also highly involved in money laundering and drug trafficking schemes so they may have stopped.

In terms of a better solution - cryptocurrency is super interesting to me. Less hassle with existing banks - but I doubt we will ever see that in my lifetime as they have such a hold on monetary policy.

Removing a nations ability to manipulate their own currency (i.g. cryptocurrency) is both good and bad.

The bad side is if the economy tanks - the government can't do much to stimulate it through monetary policy.

The good side, the government can't bullshit the value of things/accidentally fuck it up more.

It's literally just a rebranded citibank (citi is servicing the accounts)

only Google gets to see your purchase history
