Taze away, Yana...
Congrats to our winners and everyone who has decided to join us on July 14th, and hopefully stay for July 15th day.

This is where you guys can ask questions, figure out transportation for you and your gear, and generally get to know your fellow n00bs. Check out the old prep threads because so many of your questions are there. However, if you can't find what you’re looking for, or have any questions about how all this will work, don't hesitate to ask.

The 2014 thread

The 2015 thread

The 2016 thread

The 2017 thread

The winners of the free day on Saturday the 14th are:
1 rudolfs001 -
2 LakeMerrit-
3 Kawikiwi -
4 chickenfried -
5 sniper1rfa -
6 mxrider89 -

As also stated the other entrants that were not chosen have the opportunity to receive 50% off a track day to join the noob pit on the 14th at Thunder hill. There are only three slots available, so if you’re interested DM me soon so you don’t lose the opportunity to one of the other entrants.

All slots have been filled by:

NoobieDavie
thereisnospork
eWok13

Welcome dudes!

I have already received a few questions via DM. When I get some time, I’ll answer them in this thread in case any of you also have the same questions. Should you have any questions of your own please ask it in the thread instead of a DM so the answer may benefit the entire group.

Congratulations again!!! I’m freaking excited!!!

Good question. Every year i tell the n00bs that you are going through a good effort just to get to the track. Making it a weekend is always a good idea. Besides the logistics of a track day after your second session you will want to do it forever.

After the very sharp learning curve you will go through on Saturday you will be shocked at how much better you are after a nights sleep. Your brain has time to figure out what just happened, and the next day you're so much better at it. That's why practice is on Saturday, and the races are on Sunday.

also will camping at the track be available the night before?

Yes. Camping is always available the Friday before a two day event with Z2. You'll have to arrive after 5PM because the paddock may be paid for by some other group, and the gates close at 10pm.

Some of the questions I have received via DM.

1. I don't have a race suit at the moment. If you still have those rental suits available, what brand are they? I would like to go try on a few to see what size I will need, and hopefully reserve a rental (unless I end up just buying one )

I'll have to leave the size and brand up to David to answer.

The best place to try on a one piece suit is Cycle Gear if you have one close. Some larger motorcycle shops may have them too. There is also a D-store in SF should that be close.

2. I don't have a trailer, but my Honda Pilot has a tow hitch. Should I go ahead and buy a ball and tow lighting harness and try and rent a Uhaul trailer, or do you think someone else from the bay area may be able to help me get my bike up there?

Looks like you may have found a ride, but it may be helpful to other n00bs if you decide to do that. I'll let the others chime in and the group can figure it out. I will submit that after your first track day you will be buying a ball hitch for your Honda... haha!

3. I have quite new Pirelli Angel GT tires on my Aprilia Dorsoduro right now. They are ST tires, but there area a few reviews on some moto websites which mentions they did pretty well at the track. Do you think I would be OK with those tires, or should I get a set of stickier tires on before the trackday?

Lots of C riders use them. unless you turn out to be a speed daemon those should do just fine if they are in great shape.

For this event I'll be making smoked pulled pork with all the fixings for lunch. It seems to be a hit with the kids. Bassem and I will also provide water, sports drinks, snacks, and all the common things you will need. That said, this event is open to any riding buddies that may want to join you, and family members that may want to come for support. Our pit it open to everyone that wants join.

That means I will need a head count so I bring enough food for eveone. If all the winners could please tell me how many people are coming with them it helps me a ton. Also, if you are a retuning noob, or someone just looking to ride with team noob please post up, or send me a DM. That way everyone is on the list and fed.

Thanks!

So excited to come to this with you guys :D

If anyone has room on a trailer, I'd be happy to claim it. Otherwise, I'm probably going to ride the bike up.

Sounds awesome.

I believe my wife will be joining me. I was going to try and convince her to participate (she got me into riding in the first place) but I think she is still a little shook from her last crash. I will talk to her tonight and confirm.

Thanks!

You know you can count me in ! To all nOOb winners this year, congrats! I was a winner last year and a season pass holder this year. When you wake up in the morning at 5am because of the excitement and come 9am when A group is out on the track and hearing all those bikes fly down the front straight and into turn 1 you will have have a smile that will be hard to wipe off. This is the best group to be around and to learn from for your first time and will make you coming back for more!! I didn’t stay for the second day but if I could change it all I would’ve paid for it in an instant! Looking forward to meeting you all out there and seeing the excitement in you guys I was able to experience!!

The way the website is laid out is super confusing to me too. It's not 0 spaces left is how many spaces you want to purchase. They have tons of room.

As for the second day, only the 14th is free to the winners, or half off. The other half is actually coming out of the pocket of other riders wanting everyone who is able to attend this awesome event.

Please do all you can to find a ride. I (and every track rider on the face of the earth) highly recommend not riding to the track. When all is said and done you will be dead tired so slabbing home is not only awful, but dangerous. There is also always the possibility you may bone head yourself into trouble too. Then you're stuck with a broken clip on trying to figure out how to get home.

Hopefully others will post up and we can all figure out ride shares.

I think I might be able to stay for Sunday too , I have a little one at home so I’ll have to check with the wife but I think I might have enough IOUs to make it happen.

I'll be coming up from Berkeley with a uhaul trailer. Could bring a second bike if needed. Maybe 3 if somebody's desperate.

EDIT: btw, 3 bikes is much more doable if somebody has a line on a lighter trailer than the 1,200lb monstrosities uhaul rents.

Otherwise, I'm probably going to ride the bike up.

While I've never done a trackday on a bike, I've done a bit of racing. This is a really bad idea. Try to find a ride - you'll be tired of riding, and it's going to be real hot and you'll be real exposed all day. :thumbup

Exactly. Let me see if I can make it a bit less confusing. If the group is sold out, it will show N/A. Sorry about that.

Ah no worries, I was in a rush when looking at the website for the first time. Could have figured it out if I spent 5 more seconds looking at it. Thanks for pointing it out to me anyhow, gents!

I'm not sure about bringing my own bike so I'm considering renting a ninja 300 from feellikeapro. $350 per day is kinda steep...especially since I want to stay for Sunday as well so its $700 for the weekend. Anyone know if they're willing to give 2 day discounts if I ask super nicely?
