"No screaming kids" restaurant.

I'm only posting this because in another thread I heard Barfers saying they wished someone would open a place and not allow annoying kids. Said they would eat there all the time. Or maybe they were talking about a grocery store?

Either way, figured some of you would dig it.

A North Carolina restaurant says screaming children are no longer welcome and that has some parents outraged.

There's a new item on the menu at Olde Salty Restaurant on Carolina Beach. And it may be hard for some parents to digest. No screaming children. Brenda Armes, Olde Salty's owner says, "If they find it offending, I suggest that they find another restaurant to eat at that does tolerate it, because we're not going to."

Armes is tired of hearing her customers complain about screaming kids while they're trying to dine. So she put up these signs inside and out. She says, "It has brought us in more customers than it's ever kept away."

Gary Gibson is a first time customer. He says, "Having grandchildren, going into restaurants with them is not very enjoyable when you hear a bunch of kids screaming. So, it is nice to see a sign like that up."

But these parents from West Virginia don't think the signs are so nice. Ashley Heflin says, "I've never seen a restaurant say don't bring your screaming kids in here. You can't help if your kids scream."

Armes certainly thinks you can. That's why she confronted the Heflins during our interview with them. Armes says, "You don't think it's fair that I ask you if you're sitting at my table?" Heflin says, "Personally, if I saw that, I wouldn't even come in the restaurant." Armes responds, "I understand, I understand."

It was then that the Heflins' baby started to cry. In question was whether that would be tolerated in the restaurant. Heflin says, "I mean, he cries like that... other kids cry."

Armes says, "That's a crying baby. Here's a screaming child. Wah! Wah! Wah!"

Regardless, all Armes asks is that if your child is screaming, you take them outside. Armes says, "We aren't saying your child can't have fun. We're not saying your child can't be in here."

Still, the policy from armes has parents up in arms over their next meal. The owner says if a patron's child acts up, a restaurant worker will ask the parents to take the child outside. Armes says she won't ask parents, or their children, to leave the restaurant for good.

I'm down. Its not hard to keep your "fuck trophies" silent. Teach them how to behave in a restaurant.

Entirely reasonable. Really sad that ALL parents don't automatically do this.

edit: As a sidenote, I'll bet the screaming kids grow up to be adults who whine about screaming kids.

w00000t!11!!! A while back, I was eating in a restaruant with my parents. There were kids running around the place, yelling, crying, knocking shit over, standing on chairs, etc, etc. The parents seemed to not seem to know the kids existed.

My mom said to me, "We would have strangled you if you acted like that in a restaurant at that age".

Kids these days... :D

seriously...I think the same should apply to movie theaters. Walked out of a movie one time (don't remember the movie, but I DO remember it was rated R) where a chick had a baby in one of those walker cradles :wtf Kid didn't shut up for the first 15 min or so of previews, and she didn't budge to take him outside or anything, so I said fuck it and walked out and got a refund.

It was NEVER alright for me to make a lot of noise as a kid.

You don't call attention to your mom, when she's wanted for escaping from prison...

OK, I was taught to be well behaved in general also. But it counts when you're dealing with situations you shouldn't be dragging children through anyways.

Fear me!
Sounds good to me. We have a 1 yr old and 3.5 yr old. We can't enjoy our food when one of our kids starts crying either.
When we go out to eat we are 'armed' to the teeth with toys, a portable DVD player, and backup food and use each when necessary. For the most part it's a success with just the toys. When it's not (the 1 yr old crying), we either 1) pack everything up and go home to enjoy our food or 2) one of us grabs the kid and keeps him distracted. Our older son doesn't act up in restaurants. Probably because we pick the right places and he knows that acting up will get him nothing.

Rolls with it...
I don't think it is a kid problem, kids are gonna scream and cry, it is a parenting problem, as this lady exemplifies:

Ashley Heflin says, "I've never seen a restaurant say don't bring your screaming kids in here. You can't help if your kids scream."

Yeah, you can, take them outside, hire a sitter, or wait until they are old enough to understand instructions, but again, the parent has to give the instructions.

The Cake is a LIE!
lulz @ pplz thinkin that goin' to a restaurant is a right and not a privilege.

unless it's your business it's none of your business how it's run. if you don't like it gtfo.

i have a hunch that this posted 'rule' might actually increase traffic at this particular restaurant. kinda goes back to the whole 'personal responsibility' attitude that i think is horribly absent from our society.

Me and the family were eating outside the frozen yogurt shop near out house last week. A group of 2-3 Moms were at the table next to us and their kids were completely out of control. They were running between tables, yelling, and smashing the courtesy water cups provided by the store. My 4 and 6 year old kept waiting for them to repremand thier kids, but their mom's were oblivious to it all.

We take our kids out all the time, but they know screaming gets them a trip to the car. Not all parents are bad, but there are some pretty pathetic ones out there...feel bad for their kids

So I'm pretty sure they are giving refunds to all the families they kick out halfway through their meal...

Why would they deserve a refund, they saw the sign going in.... and I'm sure they have "TO GO" boxes!

Unless it's fast food, they probably pay at the end of the meal like every other restaurant.

I think I just found a way to get free meals. Soon as the check comes, kick yer kid in the shins and make him cry. Then they will ask you to leave.

BAM! Free dinner

Parents are too busy ignoring bad behavior. They are too afraid to have their kids not like them. You're a fucking parent not a buddy.

Crying babies don’t bother me - it’s what they do (besides, eat, sleep, shit & piss). But screaming kids? That is not acceptable - if you can’t calm (or tame) your kids you need to get a nanny who can.

A nanny? I didn't know we were all rich enough to have a Guatemalan illegal on staff:rofl

Step 2: Eat lobster and half of steak.
Step 3: Have kid act a fool and get booted.
Step 4: Profit free lobster!
