house -> BART -> store -> house = <100 miles.

house -> trails -> lunch -> house = <100 miles.

That, and similar patterns is about 95% of my driving (and studies have shown large parts of the population are about the same).

rentals are pretty easily available for the rest.

It'll be fun to see how many people buy this to "save money on gas."

Just like tons of people took a $10k depreciation hit to sell their SUV for a hybrid they drive 15 miles per day. Let's see, call that a gallon saved to be nice, $3 per, 3000 days...payoff in a little under 10 years, assuming the batteries never go bad and you never needed the space in the SUV :laughing

This is basically more GreenPeen bling for hippies.

I don't get it.... a 100 mile range for $33,000

:wtf

Yeah and you know its not going to have much in the way of a luxurious interior, because that adds weight.

Basically, you're paying to be green and to save some cash on petrol.

The ROI is at least 10 years on a vehicle at that cost level. So you might go from $3000 to $1000 annually. That $2000 a year is going to take a while to add up to any savings..

Fact is if you want to be green ride a bicycle.

If you want to have an economically efficient car, buy a Hyundai Accent.

Go2Trackdays

No speed limits or cars!
.... and remember the Leaf will be approximately 50% COAL POWERED

because that's about the % of USA power generated by coal :|

"While it hasn't committed to anything yet, Nissan officials say they are shooting for similar warranty coverage to that of their more conventional offerings. Those vehicles come standard with three years/36,000 mile coverage, and powertrain coverage of five years/60,000 miles, and it will be interesting to see if Nissan can match those figures for the vehicle, it's electronic motor, and the expensive battery pack (estimated replacement cost: $10,000)."

Circle Jerk in the Sink.
Most drivers commute less than 100 miles a day, I don't see any problem with an electric vehicle only getting that kind of mileage, its totally reasonable and probably backed up by the statistics on driving habits.

the solution is simple: hybrid SUV's! Especially ones with typical leftist pablum bumper stickers pasted on the back in completely ignorant irony.

I completely agree with you and the stats DO support the mileage. However, it's a tough sell in America, because we buy cars for the 5% exceptions in our usage, not the 95%. See empty Excursions because someone MAY tow a trailer, or MAY need to fit their kid's whole soccer team 2 trips out of 100.

You make fun, but I'd take a hybrid SUV...if someone else paid for it.

At least I actually tow things and fill the cargo area. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

You are assuming that gas prices are going to remain at current level. They won't. So the green hippies are going to buy it not to pollute the environment. Let them be happy. Go ahead drive a Hummer if you are so pissed at them.

It's when they claim they're doing it to save money that they earn :rolleyes

Couple hundred pounds in an Accent.

An accent would be fine, I'd prefer not to support Korean industry but I drive a metro. But the point is that you sneered at the greenies and told them to get a bicycle. A lot of people cannot afford to live within cycling distance of their job.
