I'd like to take my wife out for a nice meal. Preferably something i cant/dont cook at home. We dont order alcohol when we go out, so keeping that in mind im looking for something maybe 40-60 bucks a head at a max. cheaper is obviously fine too. preferably a quieter place where we arent packed in like sardines and have to suffer through everyone else's conversations.

And I was all "Braap!"
There is a great steak house in Pleasanton, I think it's called Haps. Down town, on one of the side streets between First and Main.

We've eaten at that place a couple of times. we found it OK. neither of us are huge sushi fans. i gravitate towards a good bowl of ramen before selecting sushi, personally. big fan of other japanese dishes though. donburri, katsudon, i make karre (curry) at home. one of these days i'm totally gonna do katsukare.

I should mention, the wife eats like a god damn 5 year old. Ive known her for 4 years and i only just convinced her to consider letting me select a dish for her. otherwise she goes with what her mind tells her is the safe choice, and then complains about how she doesnt enjoy dinner.

for example, from chinese places she only ever eats sweet and sour chicken. never wants to try anything else, not even sesame or general tso. i had to struggle to get her to accept foods with an open mind and eat a few bites before deciding she does or doesnt like something.

also for some reason she insists that mcdonalds is better than burger king. dunno what thats all about, but thats what im working with here :p

Whish I knew the area better, it sounds like her pallet is all about sugar and fat. That's something that might have to be tapered off of. Or fuck it all and get glutunous Italian or French cuisine.

GO!!!!!
Three Brothers From China, has excellent food in San Ramon.
Chinese Takeout - Food quality has gone downhill

Frankie Johnnie & Luigi, Italian food in Dublin.

Elephant Bar in Dublin is worthy Frozen food they just warm up, not worth it. :thumbup

Just had to put my 2cents there..

Downtown Danville has some good restaurants, i'd check out the reviews there. Lately I've been going to MexCal, really fresh food with quality ingredients.

Elephant Bar is frozen heat up, who knew. The Price is high enough to warrant fresh.

Downtown Danville is yuppyville. Good food with that College days beer garden atmosphere.

Eschew Obfuscation
Sachi is the name of the sushi joint in the Marketplace. Kinda Meh since it changed ownership a few years ago. If raw fish is what you crave, go to Amakara in Dublin. Place is a mob scene most nights though.

Not a lot of options in San Ramon itself that are better than pub grub unless you go up towards Greyhawk (the part of SR that likes to think of itself as part of BH).

+1 on Peasant and Pear in Danville.
Also on Bridges

Piatti and Cafe Esin are also good choices.

A wife with no palate, and a restaurant that must be in San Ramon area. Man, that is a real losing proposition, I feel for you.

i dont care if its right in san ramon. i can easily drive as far as livermore or pittsburg in my car.

and if my wife would sit on the bike with me, i'd be down to go anywhere in the bay area, but alas, must cage to the restaurant.

i'll check these ones out. Thanks a bunch guys!

looks like that steakhouse that was suggested is where we'll probably end up going. I can cook a pretty amazing steak myself, but my home ambiance is not great and apart from grease splatters theres not much motivation to wear more than boxers lol

To give you guys a bit more insight: no matter how expensive of a chinese restaurant she goes to, she'll end up ordering either general tso, sweet and sour chicken, or sesame chicken. obviously, due to her taste choices, she feels all chinese is fast food.

thats partially my fault. i tend to thirst for chinese a lot so she doesnt like it too much.

She SAYS she likes italian food. She actually likes the kind of stuff olive garden has. spaghetti and meat sauce, alfredo, carbonero/carbonera. she doesnt like most other italian food. while i'd appreciate how the aroma and light flavors of certain herbs meld together and give you a bare hint of flavor, she appreciates when flavors straight up punch her in the mouth.

Steak is pretty hard to screw up, especially if we get a nice apetizer before hand.

Just stay at home and feed her a cockmeat sammich. :twofinger

how reliable are yelp reviews anyways? ive been trying to find a taqueria that serves a good wet burrito (8-12 dollar lunch) and been pretty disappointed. everyone seems to use a jar of old el paso.

theres this Azteca cafe that uses a good sauce, but its too far to drive from work.
