It's not horrible. There's a lady in our neighborhood who lost her bird months ago. She's still posting updates asking people to keep an eye out :rofl

I’m on it, sort of a good way to keep up on stuff on the hood w/o really talking to neighbors.

Won’t miss too much if you don’t join, just the local bulletin board without tabs for phone numbers to pull off for guitar lessons or babysitters.

Taze away, Yana...
In my smaller community in Chico it's a nice thing. Mostly bike thefts, and "what was that noise!?!?", but it's also a great way for people to communicate needs like moving boxes, and free fruit from backyard trees. If you are the type that enjoys being a part of your community it's a plus. If you don't like being bothered just turn off the notifications.

I guess I'm saying, I prefer having a finger on what the people are doing around me. Without it my annual block parties wouldn't be nearly as fun either.

Can it involve bickering and nonsense? Absolutely, but what doesn't these days?

ETA: It is absolutely fantastic for lost pets should that be a concern of yours.

I am on it. We had a string of smash and grabs in our neighborhood. One couple down the street had a baby carrier and some children's books stolen out of their car. What crook would grab that stuff to begin with??? Anyhow, we found their stuff in our yard. Apparently, the thieves were grabbing anything then discarding what they didn't want. A thread started on Nextdoor and I posted what I found and the couple was able to describe their belongings and we met up and got their stuff back to them. So, yes, Nextdoor is good for helping each other out and getting warnings for things like package theft. The classified section is nice as well as it is classifieds for just your neighborhood.

we talk frequently with our immediate neighbors (mostly exchanging pleasantries), but i am kinda liking the idea of keeping in touch with a broader group of them, especially about support or issues of mutual concern.

Most whiney, petty and annoying thing I ever joined. Was on it 3-4 years ago and lasted for 6 months before I couldn't handle it anymore.

It's easy to feel your whine/petty/annoying has been stretched too far. It's important to recognize that and refocus on just one location. We are all glad you chose BARF for your outlet. :twofinger

It's good for keeping touch with your community. It's great for getting recommendations for contractors, gardeners, baby sitters, lost cats and such but it sure brings out the nimbys, whiners and tin foil hatters.

knowing a bit about my neighbors and our neighborhood, i doubt this will be the case. most (my husband and i being an exception) are here for the schools. the ones i’ve met are all lovely families very focused on their kids. some neighbors have even brought their super cute kids by to drop off munchable gifts celebrating their ethnic holidays. reminds me of when i was a kid and my danish mom took us door to door throughout the neighborhood delivering may baskets on may 1st.

I’d totally do it. Great resource and the drama is only there if you want (to complain about) it.

I've been on it since it started, a couple years now, I think. It used to be commercial free.
On ours there is ocassional whining, but mostly courteous... I guess that depends on your neighborhood...

It can be a good tool.

Ours basically has the same type of posts as our more popular local facebook groups. Crime watches, questions, referrals, and stuff for sale, but without all the Facebook drama.

Right now there's a bunch of people going bat shit over Verizon installing 5G boxes on telephone poles and a property owner installed a fence on his property that is preventing people from shaving a block long walk from entering a popular hiking trail. :rofl
