Adverse Selection
In respect of long(ish) standing tradition, let's get in our first ride of 2019. As of now, the forecast is for sunshine - this is California after all - and things look promising.
What:
A group ride to celebrate the New Year with a ride on favorite roads and a great lunch stop in St. Helena, Gott's
Where:
The *$'s at 4490 Central Way in Cordelia. If you don't know where it is, you should.
When:
Show up around 10 AM PST, fill up your tank at the adjacent Chevron - if you haven't already filled your tank, have a coffee, and greet all your fellow riders.
KSU:
10:30. If you're late, oh well.
Route:
The usual sort of Berryessa GP route out to the bridge. We'll have a break at the bridge. After a certain amount of faffing about, we'll head over to Pope, then over Howell Mountain, then across the valley to St. Helena, and Gott's for lunch.
After Lunch:
You're on your own. Feel free to head out on your own, or join up with other riders to make your way back. Last year, I did not make it to Gott's due to other contingencies, so this is an advance warning that you should be prepared to figure it out on your own.
Groups:
The last couple of years have featured big turn outs - too big for a single group. For that reason, we broke into smaller groups. If we have a big turn out this year, we'll do the same. If you're familiar with the route, and would be willing to lead or sweep a smaller group, let me know. We'll figure it out on the day.

CAVEAT:
The reason I didn't make it to Gott's last year was that a capable and accomplished, lifelong rider binned hard. If it could happen to him it could happen to you. The roads are cold, harsh, sometimes quite bumpy and dirty, and unforgiving. Wouldn't it be the shits if the first ride of the New Year were also the last for any of us? That means riding fast enough to have fun and slow enough to leave margin in place to deal with the unexpected. Please don't make me miss my cheeseburger. Questions?
