New to BARF, Capitola FZ1 rider

Thanks for the join. FZ1 rider here, currently riding about 10k miles a year, mostly with daily commutes from Capitola to Silicon Valley.

Started riding in 1994 on a Harley Sportster while living in Hawaii. Took the bike with me west to Guam, then upgraded to a Kawasaki Concours upon return to the States.

Been active in Concours Owners Group, including two years as editor of their quarterly print magazine and an awesome 3-week riding adventure through 8 countries in Europe as part of a rider exchange program.

Last "big" ride was a 3-day Sierra trip I organized for COG last fall. Ended up with 9 riders (everyone but me on a Concours) and we hit 4 of the highest passes (Tioga, Carson, Sonora, Ebbetts) on two fun loops through the mountains.

Weeklong COG Nationals in Washington has been cancelled, so now looking for new distractions. :ride

Good to have you. Our rallies should be of interest.
If you go to MotoPhoto's there is a sticky there where you can see the fun. All kinds of bikes and characters of all ages. They are fun as hell.

Many smiles with your miles! :ride

What year is your FZ1?

It's a 2002 Gen. 1. It's got the standard Ivan rejetting and Yoshi exhaust, plus a few geezer farkles like windscreen laminar lip, heated grips and Corbin saddle. Bought it with 10K on the clock and now creeping up on 40k.

Welcome!
I have owned many motorcycles, about 100, and the best of all of them was my 1st Gen FZ1. A close second is my FZ09.

I have a 2009. I'm jelly of your gas tank capacity. :) Mine is TINY. But it sure is a fun bike.

Yeah, the tank size is just about right for putting me at 200 miles between stops. Gauge hits empty around 180 and I know I've got one gallon left at that point.

One of the few things I miss about the Concours C10 was that 7.5 gallon tank. :thumbup What I never miss is how much that tank full of gas weighed and how high up it sat. :thumbdown

Big gas tanks are sweeeet. I don't have many regrets about buying mine but the lack of range is not great. All my other bikes have a better fuel range.

I bet you still get more miles between stops than I did with my Sportster. At about 100 miles I was needing gas. Luckily that usually was the halfway point on an circumnavigation of the island, and my hands were numb as hell by then as well. All my sport bike friends kind of hated me for all the stops! :twofinger

Welcome to Barf. Hope to meet you at a rally this year!

Hope to meet you and others as well. I'm still crying over cancellation of a one-week COG national rally in early June in Vancouver, WA. Not unexpected and at least I got my Airbnb deposit back.

I've pencilled in Weaverville and Quincy. :ride
