Just to be clear. This is not the same Steve-O of Jackass fame. A man who has a giant tattoo of himself saying "yeah dude" on his back and once did a stunt of stapling his balls to his leg.

Amazing how good that 1940 airframe design is.

The youngest P-51D in existence is 71 years old. That, in and of itself, is just freakin' mind blowing to me.

What other technology (any technology) of that era is worthy of realistic consideration in this day and age?

Reading about the design, flight testing and manufacturing of the North American P-51 Mustang is utterly amazing to me. And this is only one of the several hundred thousand aircraft built between 1940 and 1945.

That is amazing. Still a fantastic looking plane even today.

A lot of very relevant tech came from that era. From cellular networks to heating up a TV dinner...I believe microwave got pioneered right around then.

Don't forget radar!

Edit: My mother's uncle played a big part in the study of radio wave propagation and radar during WWII which led to the development of many different technologies!

Aren't they largely built from blueprints?

This thing even has a new wing design.

Very much hand built. Manual lofting of the airfoil shapes. It took an amazing amount of talent to move this design into a mass produced aircraft. More than 10,000 P-51s built between 1940 and 1945. The "D" model went operational in the spring of 1944. Lots of good books on the subject, riveting (in more ways than one).

Stunning.
