New Boss wants Cc on all emails

Merely Rhetorical
Is that odd? They say it's because they want to learn more about the operation and how people do their jobs, as a training exercise...

Warning: Do Not Engage
CC them on literally every email until they get sick of it. Find reasons to send annoying emails.

Have everyone CC them on every email.

I don't know why this is a big deal.

Don't send silly embarrassing things through company email, whether it's CC'd or not. The request seems reasonable, if he's new to the organization, he wants to be a "fly on the wall" of how things work -- especially in the modern distributed work environment.

Mind, if you're using Slack, or MS Teams, or any of the corporate survel^H^H^H^H^H^Hcommunication networks, he already (should) have access to this. If anything, this is more upfront and visible and should be approached with positive intent and good faith.

If you want to chat golf and set a lunch time with a co-worker, don't CC him.

Zoinks!!!!
Probably depends on how big the company is...

5 total employees? Not a big deal, IMO
100+ employees? Your boss has control issues.

Company is seriously lacking if new boss can't learn how it works from a business-plan and operations manual. Sniffing through emails is not efficient use of time in learning this stuff..

Not super weird, I have seen it a fair amount?

My boss sure as shit doesn't want that, but I have seen it asked by some supervisors, especially new ones as they try to figure out what they do or do not need to be involved in.

If it is a networked computer at work, they may be able to read it already.

Not necessarily. While you should always assume that your employer can read any email you compose using their email system, it usually requires a request to IT. They don't ordinarily have access to your email.

I'm a "boss" and sometimes I ask for this because someone (could be my guy, could be the client) has issues communicating or sometimes I just want to be clued in on what's happening on a project. I don't necessarily read all of them, but it's good to have the context if I need to catch up on something.
