Are you looking to toss the lock and save the chain? Or Vise Versa? Is it still locked to the bike?

At this point I just want to move my bike out of this shit hole.
So I am willing to toss both the lock and chain if I can get my bike off the post.
It's still locked to the bike.

Where are you?
I've got an electric metal cutoff saw that slices thru chain links - but you need A/C (as you will for a grinder which will also be quick).

Is the bike at home or where you can get power? Might be able to rent/borrow a port generator and then you can use a grinder or cutoff saw.

Just get some liquid nitrogen... freeze the lock and smash it with a hammer. Easy-peasy.

Make sure you have full coverage.

I get the feeling a lot of us have grinders and such. I live north of the Bay Bridge in the east bay and work near SFO. PM me if you want to borrow a 4" or 7" cut-off grinder.

bolt cutters won't work an angle grinder will. Fuck, if you are patient a hack saw will work, you just need to bust through the heat treatment. But it will take a long time.

Angle grinders are quickest.

Something else that works to open locks is to get a few chisels, wedge them into place on the lock, then pound another one in there to wedge the lock open. I've done that several times. But angle grinders are more fun, with all of the sparks flying off and everything. :party

I had to cut a similar lock off recently. I used my cutting torch and it was off in like 2 minutes. If you're in Oakland PM me and I can come by tonight and cut it for you. If you're not local, I'd say you could go to Harbor Freight and try getting the big bolt cutters and cut that chain. I've seen a u-lock be cut by big bolt cutters before, so I'd imagine that chain could be clipped with enough effort.

If you're going to Harbor Freight, get the angle grinder. It can cut more things than bolt cutters. The only disadvantage that I can see compared to bolt cutters is that you need power.
