Need a mechanic and a tow

You guys remember me, right? :p

I drove the bike to work this morning. just got notified by security that it leaked its oil everywhere in a steady stream. another guy was looking at it and said it looked like some bolt probably fell out.

I can carpool with my wife to get around. I'd appreciate it if someone could haul it either to their place or mine and do some mechanical work on it. I have basic tools and motor oil, so at the very least if someone can get it back to my place i can start cleaning it up and taking things apart to see why my poor fiona messed her panties.

Thanks guys

Go look, and see where the oil came from. If it's your drain plug, I think I have a spare I can bring you, and we can fill it up with oil and you'll be good to go.
But do a visual inspection first.
If it's in San Ramon, and it's not the drain plug but something else, then I can haul it to your house, but you'll need a couple of friends to come out and do the loading, because I have a fractured rib and can't muscle a stupid bag of groceries around, let alone a bike... :facepalm
Shoot me a PM and let me know what you see after a visual inspection.

Talk about getting kicked while your down. If I had the luck you're having after buying a motorcycle, I'd be out of the sport. Sorry to hear about more troubles with your gsxr. Starting to sound like a terrible money pit.

Like last time you asked for a tow, we can work something out if you still need. I'm in Danville and have a low trailer (easy to load).

patience is the mantra here. i have a car that i can share with my wife, i can always buy a pedal bike for 100-200 bucks off of walmart (brand spankin new) or get some used beater off craigslist (....again) and still make it to work OK.

best case scenario its a simple bolt/seal or some cheap part and i already have oil to put back in the bike.

worst case scenario the bike will die on me and i'll just have to wait till i can buy a new one. best thing to do right now is to learn how to fix it. much better to fix a beater than to be afraid to screw something up on a brand spanking new bike, eh?

imgur album is inbound, phones taking forever to sync things up.

A department store bicycle is liable to be about the same quality as your motorcycle. Well worth it I'm sure if you save $150 vs buying a better quality bicycle that was assembled by a real bike mechanic at a bike shop. I'd suggest used also, but maybe take a friend who knows bicycles.

did a bit of research, looks like people have this problem with the o ring leaking on the water pump. you dont need to completely detach that pump, you just need to remove 2 bolts that hold it in place, then you have access to whatever wizardry and unicorn fart routing mechanisms are behind there. theres an o ring type thing that goes there. i might be lucky and just need to replace that and put a bead of sealant crap on there. i might also get unlucky and have those bolts stripped or loose, dunno how that sort of thing is fixed apart from retapping the screw hole and using a screw with loctite.

i'ts not the oil drain plug, because theres no oil leaking form there, according to my google-fu: http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo284/snapped-photography/IMG_0612.jpg

i bought a mongoose mountain bike back in 2001. lasted me till about 2009 and cost about 150. ive never bought a nicer bike, dont really know what to look for.

One thing that screwed me badly on the mongoose was that the wheels would deform practically immediately. and the brakes were of laughable quality, but they worked. its pretty off topic for this thread but if i buy a bike i'll do some research first and carpool in the mean time. hell, if carpooling is a viable option i might not need a bike anyways. i can just get fat in the passenger seat :D

Guys, got a lift lined up from a mechanically inclined buddy. i'll update in my garage thread about how things go. either it will go to his place or mine and we'll take a look at it, depending on what he sees when he gets here.

Betting the farm on your lucky/unlucky charms and anonymous internet advice is a risky proposition.

Would be smarter to have someone with experience who actually knows what they're looking at take a look see in person so you know what you're dealing with before you/friend proceed with 'fixing' things and possibly making things better or worse or no-effect.

yup, having someone tow it and look at it. i certainly dont know wtf im looking at.

just googling around for possible issues/fixes around the area. most posts say busted seal, i see no seal over there and way too big of a gap for it to be just for a seal. i cant look at it and figure out exactly how its held on there, but its supposedly 2 hex bolts that hold it on while the philips head stuff holds the water pump in one piece.

Just take it to Shawn (elskipador) and have him sort it out. He'll treat you right and won't max the bill out at your upper spending limit.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry! :wow This has been some newbie saga. Gabe should write short two or three paragraph article in City Bike about how not to buy your first and start your motorcycling hobby. Start with the OP's very first thread looking for help to inspect and refusing advise, shop bill thread, etc etc..... seriously.

Shrimants, keep your head up. Sounds like you are taking it all in stride. :teeth It will get better. Take these folks advise and seek out Shawn even if it means having to wait for a week. :thumbup

hell i'd do a bunch of stuff for free cause i wanna double check the previous work & make sure this thing is actually safe & functioning properly. however it looks like the op is gonna have his friend look @ it, hopefully that doesn't lead to a thread about "hey guys my friend fucked up my bike. what should i do?"
