N+1

The addiction is strong.

As a new rider I thought that this first motorcycle would be so much to handle, and in a way it has, but I find myself looking at used/new motorcycles everyday. I have recently learned that "the best number of bikes to have is N+1 bikes" and I totally understand that now.

What was your first N+1 bike barfers?

As a moto - commuter, it is always good to have an A + B bike.

Then, in case you get a flat tire or break down, there is a back up moto
to get you where you need to be.

I had to dig deep in the memory bank, but I think it must have been my Kawi triple 400 and a Suzuki gs1100. I think since then there have pretty much always been n+1 except for a few years after my kid was born when I tried to stop riding and I might have just had 1 for a short while.

Jumped straight to N+2! Brand new or used?

Oh, I think you misunderstood. I was a one bike at a time person for several years until I added a DR650 to my stable at that time. And come to think of it it was DL1000 (briefly) + DR650, sold the DL and then added the GS. :loco

06 R6, 05 TM530, 17Alta MX, 18 Alta EX... plus the other.

Is this N+1 squared? I endorse this safety backup plan.

N + 1 did not happen for me until '97.
Always either a punk kid or a broke racer so no money to have two bikes.

At 39 years old after years of riding a Harley after retiring from racing I bought a TL1000s to get sporty again.. still have that, but the Harley has gone and now N + 1 + 1 + 1 etc.. slowly kept going.

I'm at N+1+1+1+1+1 and still need to buy a dirt bike.

Just to make it clear...
“N” is the number of motorcycles you need to make it thru everyday life.
That could be a commuter, a sportbike, a dirtbike, a cruiser... “N” could be one, two, five whatever.

If any one fails, you need a backup, hence the “plus one”. Does my motard backup my sportbike?

These are difficult questions. Do I need a trials bike? head explody.

I did have an old dirt bike when I had the Harley I guess. So I guess it really happened in '85. I was thinking street bikes.

I am pondering a dual sport.. but I always ponder about a new bike :laughing

Dual sports aren't dirt bikes. :x

Lets face it, everyone needs a dirt bike, even those of us who have them already. N+1!!!!!

My dual sport qualifies as a dirt bike.

My DRZ isn't a dirt bike? I don't get bummed when it takes a nap, I just take pictures.

Well I always just repaired the flat. But having a back up for commuting is really nice.

My 1st time going beyond 1 bike was when my daughter moved away, and left me the bike I bought for her when she was in high school. I didn't keep it all that long though.

After I'd been commuting full time on motorcycle for a while I did go to two bikes. Not commuting these days, but still have two.

Are we having fun yet?
First bike - GS500
5 months later - added a YZF600R
3 months later - added a SV650N
6 months later - added a DRZ400SM

So it was N+3 for me in the first 14 months of riding.
