unless you're filipino, balut is easily one of the gnarliest foods on the planet. my buddy justin mans-up and tries it for the first time. when we went into the filipino restaurant to buy this egg, the staff was completely tripping out that two white boys were in there buying balut. they couldn't stop their combination of laughter and amazement. "you really going to eat?"

Major props to your friend, I find it awesome when people are open to trying new things. We don't typically eat the egg white part, it's a bit too tough. I usually just give it to my dog... :laughing

(Tastes better w/ garlic salt :thumbup)

That was pretty funny. Points to slaughter for actually eating that thing and not hurling... :laughing

I haven't tried it, not sure if I could, but I imagine the hard part is getting past the visuals.

Great vid :teeth I think people put too much thought into eating balut that they psych themselves out. Yah, you look at it and it's an unborn chick. But when you eat it, it doesn't taste like anything since all you taste is the boiled egg yolk itself. Like animalmutha said, it's like a boiled egg....well...it IS a boiled egg.

lol. Same thing happened to my buddy at a Thai restaurant. He likes spicy shit I've seen him down a habenero and he insisted to the Thai waitress that he wants REALLY SPICY. She say's like "Thai spicy?" Lets just say he didn't finish that meal. CSB

Yup. It's like shoving four hard boiled chicken eggs in your pie hole only with more crunch.

I miss eating balut. You just can't find really good cooked ones even here in the Bay Area. I usually find the undercooked one. Oh, eat with chicharon with vinegar and you got yourself a happy meal.

Now why don't you go buy uncooked ones and boil them yourself! Plenty inside any Asian supermarket.
