My Story!

Ironbutt

Loves the anecdotal
Before I moved here to California from Florida by way of AZ, BARF folks helped me get a job teaching the MSF... Anyone remember that? Helped me out tremendously..

Pretty cool.. Two thumbs up for BARF and it's 'clutch' of Barfers..

If I could get over my insane fear of group rides.. I'd go out with y'all more..

Junkie

gone for now
So you started out a total squid on way too much bike for you without a license, got convinced to get a license and gear, crashed the bike that was still way too fast for you due to a complete rookie mistake... and decided to get an even faster bike? :wtf

Wouldn't you? :twofinger I did. :twofinger

Moral of the story: pay attention to Tim... the Enchanter, because he knows what the hell he's talking about.

I hafta say I loved this story, I loved the photos and I loved the sentiment that one person with the right attitude and the willingness to follow up can make a difference in someones life. :thumbup
I am glad that you met the people you did and did not end up wrecking and never riding again or worse stunting yourself to death.
I shared your story with some of the peeps at Two Wheel Females, because this is just the kinda story that us chicks love.
You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders, I hope you have a long and wonderful riding life. :ride Thanks for sharing.

This is really a great story and it makes me really want to get involved in talking to new riders and doing this kind of work as well.

:thumbup Really great going, Tim.

And :thumbup to you too, OP. It's not easy to put one's ego aside and listen to a voice of experience. That takes a lot more guts than I had at 17.

There's plenty more to learn and knowing that is a big first step. Try to hold onto that "beginner's mind" that keeps you wanting to learn because it will always serve you well, even tens of thousands of miles from now.

Lanesharing is caring
tl;dr version (with pics)

Squid buys fast first bike, snubs barf booth at school, Tim hexes squid's bike and it explodes, squid (now noob) takes msf, buys gear, crashes bike, buys faster bike.

Right on Kevin... and Tim :thumbup

Followed the story a bit via Tim and it sounded like things were difficult at times, but certainly having a mentor like you had has helped a ton with the learning curve.

A 1Rider success story! Yeah!

We rarely get to hear about touching others and this does warm my heart.

Props to Monta Vista High in Cupertino as well for giving us the opportunity to come out. So many schools just turn their heads on us and don't want the Moto life exposed at the schools.

This is proof it can make a difference.. :port Looking forward to next years visit and finding one more that can use a little knowledge. Such makes for a better life on two.

Sweet stuff!

If I recall correctly the goal of 1Rider is to reach at least 1 rider and pay it forward.

But that Enchanter guy is one of those fgt mods!

(Tim was my MSF teacher nine years ago when I got my moto license)
