My round 7 report

Hello friends. What a great weekend round 7 was!

Friday

I pitted down with Jay Bendon, Anh Vo, and some other peeps. As always, Jay's huge source of tools and supplies was much appreciated :laughing

I managed to do just under a 2:01, which I felt pretty good about. I didn't have the highest hopes for the weekend, as i've never felt all that fast at THill compared to Sonoma.

Saturday

After dealing with issues in morning practice tearing up a rear SC1, I grab a new tire and grid up for Clubman light. Hey, I'm not starting last this time! Sweet!

The green flag drops and i'm 3rd going through turn 1. Directly in front of me is #909, who is on a super dino bike. Man that thing walks away on the straights like i'm parked. I pass him over the top of 9 at one point, just to get walked on the front straight again. Finally we hit traffic and i'm able to snake around him on the outside with 2 laps to go. I put my head down to try and catch the leader, who gets held up with traffic himself. On the last lap into 8, I take the outside and drive by for the lead, and I hold it to the checkers.

Sunday

My first race on Sunday is legacy light. I grid up and get a good start, passing several bikes before T1. I make a pass into T9, and then again through T3 on the second lap. Now i've got the leader #888 in my sights. I drive hard through the back side and pass him up into turn 9. He then drafts back by me on the front straight.

So I realize I need to make an earlier approach. I put the pass on Brandon through T3 and focus on hitting my marks and riding as hard as I know how. For the remainder of the race I never saw him again. I put in a personal best lap for the weekend of 1:59.5 and won the overall race. I'm told the commentators may have claimed I cut the course :laughing

My 2nd race was 650 twins. I get a good start and end up 3rd, making a quick pass to put myself in 2nd. Ahead of me is Sam Romick. Now I know just how fast Sam is, so i'm pretty sure that I don't have much for him. I charge hard through the back side, putting a pass on him into T9. He drafts back by me on the front straight, and out of T1 he gives me a big thumbs up. I repeated the pass again into T9, with Sam getting by me on the front straight again. Man, it feels awesome to swap back and forth for the lead with a guy who is so fast.

Sam being a smart racer realizes that if he can close that spot into T9, I probably can't pass him anywhere else. He was right. By the 4th lap I was exhausted and just trying to hang with him, and I take 2nd. After the race we share a good laugh and handshake in the pits. That's what it's all about :teeth

The last race of my weekend was Formula 4, and I was gridded up 16th out of 16.

I made some passes and got up to 8th after about 3 laps, but then I struggled to make any more forward progress. I'd been having issues with my rear shock and tearing the SC2 tire as well, and in this race especially I felt like I had 0 drive grip. I even got it a little slideways out of 5 on the last lap. At that point I pretty much resigned to just maintaining where I was, and I finished 8th overall.

I feel pretty awesome about the progress i've made this year. In March I was lapping at a 2:10 here on this bike, now I know I can do sub 2.

Thanks Joe and 4theriders for the pics.

Cheers, see you all next year!
