MR-12

I haven't found any info online pertaining to street bikes and MR-12.

Just a few questions for those of you in the know.

Bike is setup to run it. And I see it's stupid expensive.

I'm wondering what needs to be done to the bike OTHER than being mapped and engine mods.

Like different fuel filter?
can it be mixed with pump gas?
If it cant do you have to drain fuel and start from scratch before and after use?

Anything else required?

I see U4.4 lists compatibility with pump gas but MR-12 does not. However doesn't say it cant either.

Dont take this personal. I see the lap times you keep posting.
Save your money and put it into something else. Proper suspension and setup and seat time is probably the best.

Or is this about a street bike.
Why would you buy mr12 to run in a street bike? I pour my old leftover mr12 in my harley mixed with pump. It keeps tickin.

Race bike it gets drained instantly after the races and replaced with a safe fuel.

You don't need "engine mods" or different fuel accommodations to run it, just a proper tune.

Yes it can be mixed with pump but read above ^^^!

When running any race fuel it is a must to drain what's left and run it with the appropriate fuel to cleanse the system.

With the price tag on a jug of premium rocket fuel & the maintenance that is required I highly suggest not using it unless you're racing.

MR12 is one of many oxygenate fuels. What does this mean? It means that when it sits in your fuel tank for long periods of time (we're talking a week or more) it creates a oxidative environment. What is that? The oxygen looks for metal to combine with, also known as rusting. You end up with a tank full of nasty corrosion. I had a tank that was left for months with an inch of it in the bottom. The entire inch corroded as well as the fuel pump bracket. That let crap into the fuel pump sock and plugged it up.

Working on lap times. did put my money somewhere else. Doing as much track time as I can do. Dont ride on the street.

Thanks for answering question.....

IIRC MR12 also leaves a residue on exhaust ports which can build-up quickly. this requires much more frequent rebuilds. it will also foul O2 sensors because its leaded.

MR12
Is that the stuff that has the nasty fumes I smell out there at the track?

If you ever thought about consuming MR12, then try some truffle oil. Tastes oddly like what race fuel smells.

Not to highjack the OP's post, but I have a question myself. My R6 is tuned for MR-12, after my last track day I ran it down to the fuel light and then filled it with 2-3 gallons of 91, then went out and ran it until the light came on again.

Think I should be good, or should I start sourcing parts as the bike has been sitting since March this year?

We always syphoned the MR12 out after use and then ran pump with the pump map to flush out the remainder.

Obviously a lot of folks run it with good success (noticeable gains), but I wouldn't consider it THE solution when chasing lap times.

You're probably fine.

I also siphon out as much as possible and then run for a bit, then add a gallon or two of 91 pump and let it run for a bit again.

You're good :thumbup

I do the same but running ERC (instead of VP) & switch over to my trackday/pump 100 map to cleanse everything out. Can't afford rocket fuel all the time! :laughing

Yeah the stuff is stupid expensive. I have the PCV and map switch so I can re-tune for Pump (trackdays) and MR-12 for race weekends which is my plan, just havent had the time to get that part taken care of.

Thanks for the info fellas! :thumbup
