Moving to Texas... MC Shipping Advice?

Good people of BARF... I'm moving to Texas in December for work. Must admit that I'm going to really miss the wonderful riding we have here in the Bay Area but I'm also looking forward to discovery new roads (and hopefully getting a dirt bike to add to the garage since... more space!).

Anyway, I don't want to ride the bike all that way and don't have a trailer to tow it myself. I'm considering using a company such as Premier Motorcycle Transport.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice either on this company or the general hassle that is moving a MC across the country? Thanks!

I gave my DRZ400SM to my buddy in Orlando as long as he paid to have it shipped to him.

He used these guys and they were first rate in all respects.

When he loaded up the DRZ, the covered trailer was full of old exotics.

If you're moving to Dallas or Houston, just sell your bike here and quit riding for a while.

RideSmart is the official trackday provider of Texas...

http://ridesmart.info/

A bit old school compare to Carters/Z2/FTD but a good way to get on track... Although Motorsport Ranch and Eagles Canyon in Dallas have membership options and MSR just built a kart track.. so if you ride track, you have options..

If you only do roads, then it's shit... Only the Hill Country is worth it. Dallas/Houston is flat as fluck... But there are quite a few MX parks/trails

No anymore... Dave W. burned up all the good guys and now it's just packed grids with only 8-20 minutes sessions if there are no red flags or other incidents.

3:16 trackdays is a new organization with MA racers as instructors, less bikes on the track per grid, and longer sessions.
During 4th of July, 3:16 track days was in COTA and the Friday, was dedicated only for active military people.(FREE) and also MotoMonkey with AVG leathers, gave everyone a brand new suit... again (FREE)
It's a completely different setup and atmosphere versus RideSmart.
Also, Harris Hill and Eagles Canyon got repaved, and MSR Cresson is getting repaved in 2021.

Are you moving your household goods to Texas?

I've moved my XR650L three times by stuffing it into a U-Haul truck and packing things around it.

Thanks for the info. I can see my street bike becoming more of a track bike and adding a dirt bike...

Zero sportbike riding scene out here besides the bolt on swingarm extension roll race crowd on the tollways.

I ride by myself a lot.

Figured that might be the case. I'm going to be in the Dallas area. If you can share any favorite routes it would be appreciated. I also like to ride alone.

Federal has a great rep and gives a nice discount to AMA members. They are also the official transport for AMA. I used them for a FL - CA transport and they have specialized pallets and enclosed trailers and know what they are doing.

Thanks Scott. Yes, but we're using the pods which aren't big enough and paying extra for a truck will work out more expensive that transporting the MC separately it appears.

Good call; I'd forgotten about the AMA route. Will have a look. Thanks!

Seems like moto shipping these days is stupid expensive. I was looking at buying a bike in Texas (Dallas area) and having it shipped to me ... prices were around $600-$700 with a reputable company and insurance.

Would you consider just selling your bike here and buying another later in Texas?

DRZSM Santa Rosa to Orlando was $750.

That seems reasonable.
