Motovlog'n?

FreeRyde

The Curmudgeon
My inquisitive mind want to know, do any of my fellow BARF'ers watch/subscribe to any motovlogger(s)?
I know this has been covered a few times before, but I'd like some more current info. :rolleyes

If you do watch some vlogs, why? What draws you to them, what retains your attention?
If you don't, why not? What drives you away? (lack of interesting content, too many "brooooo!"s, wheelie-boys running from the law, wtf is a motovlogger?)

Recently, I landed a job that has me riding in traffic for 5+ hours a day, at a minimum. Plenty of close calls, good samaritans displaying acts of kindness and hundreds of people playing with their phones in traffic. There is plenty of interesting content (I think). Of course I'd throw in some frisky weekend ride snippets as well. But my goal would be to post weekly videos, no more than 5-7 mins each, because no one wants to watch a more than that...

I guess the main question is what would you want to see out of a channel based in the greater bay area?

Thoughts and or suggestions?

oh? What is this exciting new job?!?

I'd wanna see
* crazy things that happen
* good grub spots in out of the way locations
* new cool places to ride
* the occasional commentary on gear

Among other things.

Don't forget cameo appearances by Mr. Noodle.

No boring parts. Don't go more than 15 seconds without something interesting.

It's not enough to just watch people doing stupid stuff, we need to know what is the right way to do whatever they're doing wrong.

It might be interesting to watch a 20 minute splitting commute where there are absolutely no issues condensed down to a minute or so, because there are so few examples out there of what it looks like when you do it right.

Take a look at the videos from CaptCrashIdaho as good educational videos that are worth watching. I need to get in touch with that guy now that I live near him.

I've watched a few, but lost interest. I think some local content might be interesting. I've thought of doing it on my commutes, but I'm sure that would be boring to watch and I'm just not creative enough to add much commentary, much less interesting commentary...

I'd say just do what you want and see how it goes. Watch the feedback and ask the audience once they have some context.

Give me the Barf version of "people behaving badly." Also, please add insane amounts of sarcarsm.

+1 on hole in the whole grubs spots...I love to RTE.

I know he is on a whole 'nuther level, but Lyndon Poskit "Races to Places" on the U-tubers is really good, mostly due to his charisma

I watch a few here and there but it would be cool to see local roads.
I think what turns some riders away from watching motovloggers is the amount of vloggers that just spout nonsense and do crazy shit for views.

I'm subscribed to this guy. He seems to have good content for the most part and is local.

I record every day and some of the stuff you get is pretty comical.
Plenty of close calls and laughable stuff. A lot of acts of kindness too.
I once rode through a fire evacuation. Saw a ton of fire trucks, panicked drivers and a 747 flying over me dumping retardant. Pretty wild commute home.

Never seen one that didn't suck. I'm gonna stereotype here... most act as though their shit don't stank (exhibit a: YammieNoob).

Also, I don't understand the appeal of YouTube commentators. I'd much rather spend my time riding than watching others ride. I'd rather play xbox than watch others play xbox. I'd rather watch a movie than watch someone else "react" to a movie.

I wrote that ------>
I watch bakerXderek, Suburban Delinquent, and Arson Rides (although he quit awhile ago) because they make me laugh mostly. It's dumbed down humor.

I like Sub D's angle on it tbough, mixing motorcycles and checking out local (socal) food spots with other riders. I'm new down here and it's cool to see unknown spots that I would probably never know about.

Shorter vids, 8-13 minutes seem to work better. Long ones can get boring (as you stated). Be interesting, being funny helps, something unique and not the same vid over and over.

I thought about starting my own youtube channel, but I'm not intersting :laughing

I personally watch rebuild series of wrecked motorcycle (chase on two wheels), test rides, shootouts, and first rides (motorcyclist magazine and motorcycle.com), and list videos/topics (cyclecruza and the illustrator). Usually any motovlogging done within that supplements the main attraction to the video which is what I mentioned first. All these channels have a pretty decently sized following. Hope that helps :)

A video of me passing your brother on the outside on a double yellow with a truck coming the opposite way on Mines. Hope that was general enough.

Pretty much dig that duo across the pond 44Teeth. Interesting vids/topics with decent humor and they can actually RIDE unlike many motovlogers.

Speaking of riding, this local kid is out ripping Holister on the regular on an old YZ 250.

I am surprised how many motovlogers out there know very little of the topics they cover and can't ride for beans. I guess it's all in the quest to create content for viewing.

If you do watch some vlogs, why?

The only Vlog I watch anymore is Katkam - mostly because she's a friend of mine and I want to support her.

If you don't, why not? What drives you away?

Riding a motorcycle doesn't suddenly make you an interesting person with interesting things to talk about. Some vloggers have managed to gain a following by being an interesting person and doing wacky/fun things, but that type of content grows old, and unlesss you can be creative enough to keep me guessing, then I won't stick around.

What's more, the vast majority of vloggers are novice riders, and I spend more time cringing watching them make stupid mistakes than I do listening to them complain about some first world problem.

Building a successful youtube channel requires 3 things:

1. Interesting content.
2. Consistent and frequent content.
3. Quality video/audio/editing.

Moving foward, you should ask yourself this:

1. Why are you interesting? What is unique about your personality that would make me want to watch your videos?
2. Do you have any idea how much work goes into creating and editing professional-level vlogs?
3. What is your goal of this project? Fame? Money? Killing time?

I watch some of them, would I want to watch a commuter? Hell no

I like 40 times around, mostly camping gear reviews and motorcycle travel/camping tips. Not really a guy motovloging. Basically just stumbled on this channel when looking to shrink my camping stuff to bike size. Not sure if I'll watch it too much though now that I got all my stuff.

Other than that I watch motorcycle travel videos. Pan American highway, TAT, Baja, Alaska.
