We were told to take it to a new thread.

In regards to a a new poster asking for money.

Let's discuss here.

I cannot post something for sale for a friend, but we can have new non-participants sign up asking for money under the guise of "being part of the motorcycle community"? I cannot get past that. Discuss if you'd like. Or not.

I do not have a problem with a fellow motorcyclist who was injured, especially one who was injured by someone else and needs help asking for help. I hope that if I was in need you folks would assist me.

I do not even mind too much that they did not join until after they needed help. I would certainly expect that there are members here who must know them???

I did find the whole tone of this ordeal unusual, the lack of providing answers to real questions about the accident, post a link to the news about it so that people know it is not a scam, answer the real questions that members have and not hide. I was not impressed with the answers or lack there of when they were semi provided.

There are rules that we as members are requested to comply with, I would hope that those rules apply to everyone. I do not know what the other issues were regarding the selling of bikes or how all that ties in so I will refrain from speaking about that.

My Honest opinion that thread should be taken down.

Some people don't understand altruism or community.

If you don't believe don't give. Pretty simple.

Easier and more classy than beating two drums.

This is why we can't have nice things. The need to keep everything fair/evenhanded leads to blanket bans or blanket acceptance of lame things.

Budman says it's ok, then it's ok. If he says its out, it's out. Use of the mod core as a resource when it comes to making decisions like this is an excellent idea.

There was a sufficient amount of whining in the other thread allowed before the clamps were brought down. What more do you want?

I reject the notion that purchasing a product instills you into a community. I've always thought that "community" meant a lot more than, "hey look, we bought the same thing". I know that's reality, but it's superficial and I won't respect it.

And, "you can only say nice things in this thread" is dumb. May as well lock it and pin it if you want ongoing exposure. It's like RIP threads, why bother having an open thread where people all say the same thing? Unless we're looking to trap and punish, just lock any threads that have comment filters. There's no point in talking when you control what the words will be.

You have to define a "community" and that contains a significant amount of exclusionary language

I'm not opposed to people swinging by asking for help because it's up to the individual to decide BUT we need a way to screen for those to that aren't a direct member, those that are just looking to take advantage of our community, those that aren't us...

That "us" part is so hard to define...

Been around the block
This is not that much different from the old days when churches would hold an extra collection to help a family member of a parishioner. Its just on the internet.

Give if you believe in it, can afford it. If you can't, move along. Its for no-one to judge.

As members should we not look out for each other as well, when someone is trying to sell a piece of crap and pass it off as Like new to someone who does not know the difference, if you know would you step in?

If your friend was being taken advantage of in a cult or scam would you not try to inform or protect them?

We are that group, and when there is something going on do we not have an obligation to speak up and protect our own?

I just don't know these days.
I stayed out of the thread knowing this was going to lead to a "go give me"

I've personally been part of a few "go give me" hoaxes thinking awwww it cant hurt to give something even if its not much.
Then I find out its fraudulent, now egg is on my face its like damn it here we go again with the Nigerian scam crap again.

I hear the people who are skeptical and I totally get it. (been one)
When questions are asked and there is no feedback the warning signs are in the air.
I too want to know if the request is legit.
The crappy answers the gf gave didn't add up IMO.
What also gets me is the now the insurance is covering things...?
They should just tell "go give me" to refund the donations.
Since when does being in an accident include gift money?
If the accident is someone else's fault that's what a good lawyer is for.

I guess in these politically correct times those who suspect should just say nothing or face the wrath of those who easily part with their money.

You can choose to donate or refrain.

Its the go-fund-me era. Someone I've never heard of with a go fund me is hard to take serious.
If Jess needed a boob job to help with his self esteem... well sure I'd throw in a few loonies.

i remember back when i was like 25 or sumptin, went and bought me a 2004 zx10r, it was a 1 year old bike at the time and had all the goodies on it... i could barely afford the bike itself at the time; little did i know that a literbike ridden by an aggressive 25 year old burns rear tyres like , well... yeah... teh BARFz didnt have much sympathy when i posted wanting good deals on rear tyres :laughing :rofl

I went off on some "cough" from the east coast coming on barf and asking someone to help him with buying and shipping an expensive part for an expensive motorcycle that he really couldn't afford, and bud banned me when I called BS on it (I think he actually perma-banned me, and only because Beauregard intervened it didn't stick). But I think I was right. Just because you ride a motorcycle doesn't make you anything other than someone who rides a motorcycle. How many of you would go on an MC forum where you're not known and start begging for help, $$$$, a tow, parts? It's BS. I stayed the fuck away from the thread in question, but I'll put up my opinion on the issue in this thread.

Remember the guy from Brentwood last year with 3 post and all 3 looking for a rescue for 3 different breakdowns of his POS bike.
He actually claimed he lived closer, I guess figuring he'd give the actually address on route when too late to back out.

:nchantr...i knew i should have clicked on this thread earlier :laughing:twofinger

But in all seriousness, how is this even a discussion? I'm supposed to give money to somebody that made an account the same fucking day they're asking for money?

I've been here since the beginning of fucking 2004 and i'm only a contributor because I won a bet and somebody donated on my behalf :rofl

Fuck outa here with that shit, come shovel some fucking snow and i'll pay the guy $10 per hour and provide lunch and some beer
