Week before last up at the Sears Pt Kart track. Was chasing my buddy on his crf450r getting some footage and on the 4th lap coming out of an slow right hander got on the power and the bike quit.

Death Lap:

Figured I might have done ran out of fuel but there was plenty. Got back to the post and tried to kick it over, no joy.

Took the bike home drained the oil and found this:

Looks like it's time for a new crank, crank bearings and probably an fresh piston for good measure. Any opinions on quality parts. Thinking of going with an Wiseco rank rebuild kit and piston kit.

Really not looking forward to going through all the nooks and crannies to get rid of all the metal particles left behind.

Put a magnet into that stuff to see if it's bearing material, but regardless, everything gets new.Lucky for you the parts are fairly cheap. My con rod was $680, dealer cost!:wtf ALL your parts won't be that much.

Makes you think "perhaps my next Motard wont be a . . . (Ktm, Husaberg, Aprilia, VOR, Vertimati, Bimota, MvAgusta or any other Eurobike)".

Then you ride it and say, "oh well, that's what money is for."

I have had problems with wiseco pistons in a yz250f 2006, bike landed on its side, popped the wristpin circlip out and toasted a crank/rod bearing when it backed out.

I have a JE in the XR and obviously no forseeable issues.

Also using a ProX rod in my XR and again no problems so far.

+1
wiseco is not what it used to be. I have found 2 pistons that were out of spec. and a bum gasket in my wiseco rebuild kits in the last few years.

Id try to get a cosworth or vertex piston in there.

I'm pretty sure Kingmoocher here on BARF just did this exact rebuild on his CRF250SM

Lol, nope he bought all the parts for the rebuild and then sold the bike to me :teeth

He still has all the parts sitting around so I will probably pick them up from him.
