Moto-Tote Sport Carrier

I was wondering if anyone had any comments about the Moto-Tote Sport carrier which mounts to the vehicle tow hitch? It's featured in the April Roadracing World mag.

It sounds attractive mainly as it would save space for storing a trailer, but I'm interested in BARFers comments.

Is it better to spent $500 on a trailer???

Cheers

Is that the thing that mounts the bike to the rear bumper?

I wouldn't use it on maything short of an RV. You're putting 450lbs far aft of the rear axle. It's going to affect turning and braking in a whacked manner. For a dirt bike, it's OK, since they're so much lighter.

Dunno if it's an issue for you, but it requires a class IV hitch too, which not all trucks have. (You might get away with a class III, but you have no safety overhead on tongue weight.)

There's also the thing that holds just the front wheel off the ground. I hope you're not considering one ... It can't be good for the bike to pull it from the forks.

I've seen a couple of guys with these at the track. Seems to work, but is a bit of a pain to load and unload by yourself? Personally, I'd save my money and look for a used Kendon trailer. In the meantime, U-haul rents motorcycle trailers for $15/day. Not the best setup in the world, but workable nonetheless...

Thanks.

Yeah I reckon the tow by the front wheel option is seriously bad for any bike, let alone a race bike.

I have a tongue weight capacity of about 700lbs on my SUV so the Moto-Tote system would be OK, but I'm just not sure. Don't want the damn thing falling off or wrecking my truck.

Maybe I'll hold out for a trailer - anyone got one for sale?

I have a moto tote sport and it works well on the back of my explorer or f150. If you want to check it out shoot me a pm. I am considering selling it as I may also sell my truck and will need a real trailer for dump runs ect.
