More On Motorcycles

Hey there. You, with the motorcycle.

Some of you might know me from my days as a CityBike Wrecking Crew member, others for my photography. The rest of you? Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Max, and I just started the More On Motorcycles website. I am hoping to make it a place for riders of all disciplines to not only learn more about gear, bikes, racing, and industry news, but to also be inspired to go on more trips, do more track days, and create the memories that motorcycles allow us to have.

My history, in case you need to know credentials before clicking over.

I have been a BARFer since the first day of being a rider. I run Oxymoron Photography in addition to the More On Motorcycles page.

I was the copywriter for Cycle Gear, an MSF instructor, and regular contributor at CityBike both as writer and photographer. In addition to CB, my photos and/or writing have been featured in Cycle News, Cycle World, Next Moto Champion, Motorcyclist, Road Racing World, Motorcycle Mojo, and a handful of non industry publications.

I am on the AFM board of directors and race with the club as a backmarker expert, #868.

Let me know what you think, the site is a work in progress.

Good luck with the site, it looks like a cool distraction from my workday !

Looks nice, needs more content

Thanks, and I totally agree!

When I was down at IMS I reconnected with quite a few industry people that liked what I did with CityBike and seemed genuinely excited to work with me on the new site. Fingers crossed.

Whatever that means
One thing that I will say is that when i read reviews im used to the format of:

[what i think it's gonna be/what it's supposed to be]

[what it actually is]

[briefly what it was]

That last summary paragraph is important to me because I usually skip reading the whole thing and shoot down for that last paragraph. If the paragraph says anything I wasn't expecting I then scroll back up to see why.

I could've sworn BARF did all that and than some. :dunno

It does. I love BARF.

I would not be in the position to make a go on my own site without BARF. That is why I was a contributor before I became a sponsor.

Just following my dreams.

Nicely done!!

You've been doing this a long time so you already know what needs to be done to make this sustainable. Putting together an open trackday AND / OR an off road ride could be a great way to bring some riders together.

I enjoy motorcycle stories and motorcycle reviews but generally sway away from reviews done by the big mags such as cycle world or sport rider, etc.

One thing I liked about City bike and now what Max is doing with MOM Is that it’s brutally honest from a regular guy who is just like all of us. I know Max won’t write something if it’s not true and he’s not gonna patronize one brand because they give him motorcycles to review

Looks pretty good to me. I like the article links with photos, but it would be nice to have an alternate page with just the article titles and maybe a date they were added. Something where I can tell what I've already read because the link color changes.

I read the article on the KTM 790 Adventure and it was a good change from all of the other articles on that bike that I've read so far.

I'll try to be a regular visitor.

I always try to find the good parts and focus on them first. That said, I did refer to a machine's riding position as "aggressive pooping" once in CB. I don't see that style of reporting ever changing with me.

Thank you! I was used to being low on the list to get bikes when writing for CB, and now I am working on even being on the list. This means by the time I see a bike, the big dogs have already told you all of the specs, all of the colors available, and what it was like at the carefully orchestrated press launches. I always valued those articles, but most people are not going to take their Ducati's to Mugello. I try to be more "real world" with my take on things. It does not always work, but I am stoked when it does.

More on; I dis like the title.

I knew it would put some people off, but all the good names are taken. I actually spent a solid week coming up with names, looking them up, and finding that they were taken by motorcycle shops in Europe. I mentioned to my wife that I was struggling, and she made this suggestion. I think it is perfect and am kicking myself for not thinking of it.
