The desert. In June or August? Night time with good gear. For me, it's usually too damn hot to ride across the Southwest during the heat of the day.

Depends if you want to ride or sightsee. If you want to ride then I'd suggest looping through Yellowstone (Bear Tooth Highway), or even Glacier. That'd put you at around 500/day which I;d think would be pretty easy on a Connie

For a little tamer I'd hit one of the passes then cut across NV to Zion/Caliente area in UT then over to Mesa Verde, 4 corners, and Monument, Grand Canyone, Vegas, Death Valley, and Home. Guessing that'd be closer to 300/day

There are some threads around here if you search, including one of mine. Might search "Western Wander" as Kyle checked some cool stuff in that area

500 miles a day is just plowing down a slab. nothing else.
if you want to see anything keep it 300 miles a day, or less.
plan one day mid trip. doing nothing. bike sits idle.
bike maint/repairs, body rest?

how many days have you been riding on a trip?
how many days in a row have your ever done 300 - 500 miles each day with sleep at home?
think hydration, at least one gallon a day.
and 2 aleve, in the am, with two more at night.
the body will crap out on you real easy if you start to dry out. or get fatuged.

What? 500 miles a day can involve plenty of fun roads if you enjoy long days. My trip last weekend the first day was 420 and that was even though we got a late start (7:20), had a very slow rider with us, got in early (6ish), and did minimal slab (<50mi).

If you want to take photos etc. 300 miles per day or less is about right.

I’ve been on many road trips and even on super slab you’re lucky to average 50mph.

Here’s why. Bikes stop for gas over twice as often as cars, and each time you must hydrate. That makes for 1/2 hour gas stops. Plus, your butt will be grateful. Then one must eat. Even fast food is 1/2 hour. Unless your bike is a total bagger, you will spend some time somewhere fooling around with your baggage. If you don’t have a custom seat, after a day in the saddle, you’ll be crying for excuses to stop.

That's not my experience, but I guess some people do take 20 minutes to use the bathroom.

I don't have a custom seat and enjoy repeated 5-600 mile days with minimal freeway.

I’ve done the 4-500 mile days many times. Not so much fun.:wow

Just hydrating while at a stop can take twenty minutes. And yes, if one has to pee, it can be more. :)

I used to ride with stock seats. No longer. The pain is too much. I’m likely older than you.:party

Looks like a fun trip, (pics???) glad you had a great time! Wife and I did sand mountain, pony express trail, yellowstone, glacier, crater lake and then finished in Ft Bragg for a few days last July with some folks out of sac. We had a great time. :thumbup Lesson learned for us was pace of other people (we tend to ride quicker and longer than others w/less stops) and due to our ride mates only able to get a week off, we rode, slept, rode again etc. For our next one, we are going to ride, stop for a day and look around, then ride again to next destination. It was great we spent time at grand tetons....but ended up having to just RIDE THROUGH Yellowstone and not look.....such a bummer. Aslo ride mate broke down in Glacier and had to haul bike home. :thumbdown

Be aware that in Yellowstone National Park the maximum speed limit is 45 mph. I was there in a car in September and drove on every major road, in and out every entrance, stopped at every visitor's center, and saw most of the major stuff there that didn't involve hiking.

If you want to stay in West Yellowstone, or inside the park, you should already be making your reservations. It's a little easier to find lodging in Gardiner, MT, just outside the north entrance. It's a lot easier to get lodging in Livingston, MT, but that's 50 miles outside the park. There are very few other places to stay near the park.

They may still have some construction zones going. The road between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Geyser Basin had at least ten miles of slow dirt/mud road when I was there.

Going up, not too hot anywhere except death valley which i crossed before 11 am
Going Back ( Page AZ => Kanab => Zion => Vegas => Beatty )

Once i entered Zion, It was hot dont remember exact numbers but it was over 85 for sure. Hwy 15 south worse but i was OK that day

Next day Entered Death Valley, I was at furnace creek by 12:30 PM, It was 116 and i was feeling dizzy. Drank almost a gallon of water
Promised myself that i ll ride in here again in summer :rofls
