I was thinking about taking the scenic route to livermore tomorrow. But I have never been on that road after alot of rain. Are there WATER crossings and if so are we talking a couple inches or deeper. Since I can't put my feet down I was a little worried about this. Thanks

I'd be more.concerned about rock and mud and dirt washed onto the road. Mount Hamilton and Mines roads are pretty dammed treacherous after storms.

Any time I've seen running water on the road it's just been an inch or two. Right now I wouldn't be shocked if it's deeper.

we were thinking of doing del puerto-mines tomorrow also. it's been raining hard for a while up there and i think it will be a mess.couple of water crossings on mines-probably a couple of inches, but flowing fast.i wouldn't do that road alone right now.thinking about it i'm probably going to head somewhere else:laughing

The wet mud is stupid slick. I have regretted it in my car and couldn't imagine doing it on two wheels

Don't know about Mines road. Alum Rock Rd. (Hwy 130) is closed today due to slide. it is closed a few miles up the hill from the something view restaurant.

There could be snow on Hamilton right now. I'll leave the fact checking to those more interwebz savvy.

Mines is notoriously gravely after a good rain.

Well I saw white stuff on top of it while on 101 today. So it's either light snow, or shit tone of cocaine got dumped by drug runners. :laughing

Thanks guys. It sounds like I should skip it this weekend, especially since I am by myself. I am leaving my bike in livermore, so looks like I will just ride straight there.

There are two "water crossings" on Mines where the creek overflows across the road. First one is at the 17 mile marker just after a right hander and mailboxes on the left. Second is at the 19 mile marker, both location are easy to spot and are not in turns. Width of water across the road can range from about 4' to 10' and about 1" to 4" deep. Again that all depends on the amount of rain. Last time I can remember it being deeper than about 4" was back in 2008.

If you're not familiar with the road most of the crap after a rain is from about the 6 to about the 15 or so mile markers. Also, at the county line, 20 mile marker, the Santa Clara side to the Junction usually stays cleaner. Caveat: Mines has a life of it's own and conditions can be different every day.

I was also thinking about riding to the "J" today but wouldn't be able to go until about 12:30 or after.

The 2 actual water crossings themselves are really a non-issue... it's all the other crap that's been washed down onto the road (see the post below).
If you're unfamiliar with Mines, my suggestion is to wait for a couple of weeks with no rain... the ranchers' trucks/trailers will have cleaned a lot of grit off the road by then! :)
