I was referring to the 20% getting the 80%.

That's still going on, it's just that the other 80% seem to be getting less.

Ah I see. I think it's worse for online dating. For couple of reasons. First it's much more visual. You don't even get to message part unless you are visually appealing. In meat space you can still meet someone and then there is personality match that can happen. Second reason is that people who do get match more then ave6 get flooded with messages.

I agree, online dating is a joke. For some it works, but rarely for the right reasons.

My experience with it was back when I was early 40's, I found that being 40 something was an automatic disqualifier with women in 30's to mid 40's. I went from zero responses (real, not the robo answers to fake profile) to several a week by setting my age at 39. Then much more when I dropped it to 38. Women on dating sites definitely stereotyped guys in their 40's, at least back then.

Not as fast as I look.
Just saw a news deal last night saying the decreasing sperm count of males is a concern for the future. Plastics was the culprit pointed out.

Interesting article... although I just skimmed it because I really don't give a :jaded
Plastics? Oh, I have serious doubts about this one. MeToo - maybe, Microwaved Tacos - maybe - plastics no. Microwaves from cellphones is more likely. Especially when the lads hold the phone pic near their genitalia to simulate the real act.

On-line dating requirements for men:

Dick with the same dimensions as a Pringles can.
29 years old. Forever.
George Michael's face. And hair.
Very high level business man/doctor/lawyer that makes a kajillion dollars a year.
Perfect family.
Super talented in every aspect.

This paragraph of the article was actually my first thought. Priorities are different from even when I was in my young twenties (not that long ago). I don't disagree that there are a multitude of external influences but also for the "typical" American, the pressure to marry and have kids as soon as possible is not as heavy as it used to be. You can establish yourself and take your time in choosing a long term partner now.

"And some people today may feel less pressured into sex they don’t want to have, thanks to changing gender mores and growing awareness of diverse sexual orientations, including asexuality. Maybe more people are prioritizing school or work over love and sex, at least for a time, or maybe they’re simply being extra deliberate in choosing a life partner—and if so, good for them."

The golden age of online dating has peaked. The apps have destroyed any possibilities of having a meaningful interactions if someone in particular doesn't meet your checklist. There are always 10 other people ready and willing to take their place. Its created a 0 sum effect in which no one wins.

Was there ever a 'golden age' of online dating? When did such a thing exist?

I won't disagree that hookup apps changed the whole equation.

3-4 years ago when Tinder first appeared on the scene, when it was still relatively unknown. I went through the meat grinder myself but it was relatively easy to land a date back then. These days you'll be lucky if anyone even replies to your messages at all.
