Clearly now festivals, shopping and those going out on the town are in the nutcase playbook along with schools and concerts.

The "solution" will be greater police presence all the time everywhere.

Condolences to family and friends of the innocent victims.

Wow this is insane :rip :rose

Sure is.

The two most recent shootings took place in shall issue states were people could have been (and in El Paso reportedly were) carrying. No civilian took it upon themselves to shoot back, which isn’t surprising or something they should be expected to do.

But common remarks after shootings like this include “gun free zones” and “that’s why we need shall issue and more guns.” This weekend hasn’t been kind to those arguments.

Even the 'more cops' argument falls somewhat flat. The cops in this case clearly saved many lives, but in the minute it took for them to respond the shooter killed 9 and injured 27 more. Are we going to have multiple cops in every building now?

In 15 States private security guards can be armed and obviously there aren't enough real police to do that.

What New Zealand did, for example, would not be allowed here.

My reaction to all of the shootings, it seems to be a competition now, getting those numbers reported on tv.
Remember back when streakers were televised @ ball games.
The media finally stopped screening these to end the time on tv competition, these people were enjoying their 15 minutes of fame.
By stopping the game more time was needed for the broadcast.
Time is money, you can see this every year when networks try to shorten baseball, just a little more off please.

My point about gun free zones is that many of the maniacs chose their targes specifically because they believed their armed oppisition would be in uniform and therefore easy to identify and neutralize. A few have even made that clear.

I suspect that most armed citizens would not engage in a firefight except under the most extreme circumstances.

this is crazy, once upon a time we had leos that would retire without having to discharge their gun on scene.....

now we got guards pulling guns on ppl, ex leos as well, this is getting outta control

True. Most people who CCW are protecting their loved ones. Not sure if CCW classes discuss a mass shooter situation. :dunno
Pistol Vs Rifle is scary enough

When I went in the late 80s they stressed avoiding a firefight whenever possible. It was always portayed as a very last resort. Then again, back then apart from the University of Texas asshole mass shooters were virtually unknown.

They also underscored that you do not want to be the person with a visible weapon when the cops respond to a shooting.

They did teach a bunch of situational awareness. CCW was personal defense, not saving the world. Vacating the scene was optimal.

Update on this one - appears shooter went to location to target his sister and her boyfriend. Taking out anyone who got in his way was secondary. Doesn't really make it any less fucked up, but kinda pushes it towards category 2 and not 3.
