I think his father announced that it shouldn't be a sad or somber event, but a celebration, and that casual clothes were welcome.

As for me, lately I cringe when I'm watching football players lose their helmets in games, it reminds me of watching that accident, even though I know the football player will get up and put the helmet back on.
