M4M: A fling on Bear Creek and beyond.

I make words too.
Me: I was putting my first few miles on a GSX-S 750, in the dark. It has a weak headlight, and the brights are not that much better so I was puttering along at a reasonable pace.

You: A dude(?) on a FJ09 in a red (?) 'Stitch. At first I was unsure if you were a member of law enforcement looking to remind me what the speed limit was. As you approached I realized that you were not so I moved over a bit to encourage you to pass as you closed in pretty damn quick.

You hung back, so I wicked things up a little bit. Eventually we caught up to another pair of motorbikes bringing the total to 4.

At Alhambra Valley Road the two Motos that we caught pulled over and I waited for you to go ahead.

Again, you settled in behind me and away we went. I am not sure why you put your faith in my shitty night vision, but you did.

We parted ways as I waited to turn left onto Taylor and you continued straight. Thanks for playing, and I hope I did not hold you up too much. :thumbup

Very few modern sportbikes can compare to the tri-bulb 954's.
(Really, it's amazing)

Sure, the 954 has an adequate headlamp, tho I rarely drive it at night. Believe it or not, my favourite nighttime ride has been Scoot. Anyhoo ... it's peculiar the US DOT would OK a brand new vehicle with 'weak' headlamps. But I'm Mr Sceptic.

I would guess that DOT headlight requirements are similar to DOT helmet requirements. If a puddin' bowl can get certified...

My Arai Corsair X has a DOT stamp. A puddin bowl can have a DOT stamp.

Which one would you rather fall down in?

I'm just saying there is a minimum requirement that needs to be met and sometimes that bar is pretty damn low.

Back on topic, I want to know who my riding buddy was.

My feelings would not have been hurt, but thanks for letting me feel like a hero for 10 minutes or so. :rofl

As long as the brights were on I was fine, but whenever I had to shut them off I was hosed.

I think I have a story idea to pitch to Editor Surj.

I don't believe DOT checks this. I think that a manufacturer claims that the headlights meet FMVSS 108, and they're good to go.

Ever ridden on or around a CSC RX3 at night? Low beam looks like a parking light. High beam however performs about like a low beam, so it's alright. Sort of.

Basing that on a sample size of 1, but owner claims his isn't defective, rather that the lights suck, and it's a common topic on the forums.

Goddam you. For the last month, I have had the Prince song Kiss stuck in my head. Only not the whole song, just the little guitar breakdown followed by the part where he says "Kiss". Only in my head it's Mike Tyson saying Kith. So it keeps going dwiddle dwiddle dwee......Kith.

Thanks. I had just gotten it out and now it's back.
