Through the mountains skirting the Napa Valley. Nearly all are state highways well-paved and nicely configured, perfect for leaning into; the scenery is great; and there will be very little traffic most of the way. We'll start early because it's 3 hours to Geyserville from Berkeley. We can return via 101 or Napa Valley. You can meet us along the way if you want.

Yeah. But have you ridden the highway alongside Lake Berryessa? Super good, like the state highways. And 29 from Middletown down to Calistoga is epic. The only bad road on the route is the Pope Canyon Road. It's a county road, so it's pretty beat up.

Knoxville-Berryessa is a fun road but Officer Dunlop will write you for ANY infraction. I like Sage Canyon to Chiles and up to Angwin or Butts Canyon to Middletown. My 2 pence.

Good advice. I was wondering about that after I decided the route. I haven't seen patrols in the off months, but it makes sense that they'd start around this time of year. So, okay, we'll go Pope Valley and Butts Canyon to Middletown, then down epic 29 to Calistoga.
