Holy f*cking shit. Anyone check it out lately?

Bought 25, 2x8x16s treated to .60 for this project that's taking way too freaking long :laughing back in April for just under $600 after tax, works out to $24 per board.
Decided to get after it again and needed some more wood. Call up the local lumber yard looking for 35, 2x8x12s also treated to .60

Was quoted a few cents under $53 per board, before tax :nchantr

Waited this long, what's another few months :laughing

It's insane. 7/16" OSB is $30+/sheet at home cheapo right now. I can't get pre-approved to even look at plywood.

Thank the pandemic.

Been this way since May-ish.

Wanted to redo some fence posts and replace some fence till I saw current prices. Keep going back and nope-ing right out the door.

This.
My back fence went up in a puff of smoke during the Glass Fire.
My hobo chain-link temporary dog restraint is beginning to look a little more permanent than I had planned.

Yeah, my BIL the commercial contractor warned me about it. Up something like up 40%. I have a rotten deck that needs replacing but I am waiting until next spring, hoping the prices might drop.

Just as Corona was hitting, we were doing major hardscaping and landscaping here at the house. They have had a banner year in work, booked solid.

I think folks at home are taking stock and deciding to get work done. That fact that they're WFH makes it easier to keep tabs on contractors.

I know two restaurants that have either redone their 20 year old floors, or done complete makeovers. "We're shut down, so why not" kind of thing.

Early on, the local Lowes and Home Depot were slammed.

2 of the 3 fences bordering my yard are leaning precariously.... I wonder if the price of wood has increased enough to make steel posts less painfully expensive. Steel is probably way up too

The construction industry is having a boom of 2005 proportions

My body is a lumber salesman and had his biggest year in 15 years

I had the most profitable year of my life in 2020

They won’t, trust me.

The sheer amount of things in the pipeline is insane.

Famous last words

Spring is in 2-3 months.

I’m not saying they’ll never go down, I’ve worked construction through multiple recessions. I’m saying they won’t go appreciably down in the next 6-9 weeks.

If you wanna know why bay lumber prices are huge, look to the fact sabta Rosa is effectively reproducing the 2004-6 housing boom in fie rebuilds. There’s so much work Fresno workers are coming up to work. Shit my company is turning down work hand over fist due to lack of skilled labor.

Things will obviously fall, but I think people aren’t aware of the construction reality right now. EVERYONE is redoing theoe decks, fences, etc etc, feathering their nests, on top of rebuilds.

I've heard all sorts of reasons for the price of lumber being up, and it's probably due to all of them. So yeah, frame your house out of metal--it's about the same price right now. Problem is, you still need plywood...doh!

Ah, yes i believe that as well.
I'm not in the Bay anymore but I'm pretty sure this is a national reality unfortunately.

Who the hell is buying all these houses?
