Love me my Metzelers, but...

2.2k into my M5s, gone, rear bald and about to show threads, front balding to much for touring. I love the way these have stuck to the road, but I had no idea how fast I would go through them. My standard bike currently puts out @110-115 HP w/@65-70 ft lbs torque weighing in at 475 wet. Add me 235#. 75% riding on Mines Rd. & local likenesses. (I am 2 miles from Tesla/Mines) I am a moderate+ rider. After reading recent posts and comparisons I ordered a set of Roadtec 01s (HWM). Oct.8 I am doing a weekend loop heading east and south through Yosemite, then back west through Snelling. I need good sport touring rubber. I hope these last a while. I ordered from Superstore because their prices with shipping were virtually the same as others and they were the only ones with the tires I wanted in my sizes, in stock.

I have about 4k miles on my roadtec 01's on the VFR. I did 1 track day with them, they are very responsive and good feedback. I ride with luggage for touring or with my wife and am a solid A group rider at the track. They should last you a long time. Be mindful of tar snakes. They seem to be the weakness of these tires. I never had that problem with michelins.

I am glad to hear they are sticky enough for the track, even if I am a street only rider. Ever ride them in the rain or on wet pavement?

I ride Roadtec's year round. I get 10k out of a rear and more out of the front. I use them specifically for commuting, year round. They're perfectly fine in the wet, no problems.

Yea, they still worked well in the wet. I was looking for a thread today where I had said I would report back on them. I just wore out the rear at 7k miles. The tires were still pretty responsive even with the middle bald. They never really had a flat spot, and still respond better than the PR4's I had. You may ask how? The PR4's after about 4k miles seemed flat and hard to respond. I never got that from these tires. I also got weird wear patterns on the front PR4 and a huge upgrade in response when you replaced the front after a PR4. I doubt I will get that after these tires. I had to plug the rear in Orleans during Weaverville rally and rode home to Sunnyvale with the plug and a bald tire. Still handled well. I know more mileage could be had out of the 01's if you don't ride as hard as me. About 1,500 miles of the 7k was with the wife on back, and about 70 miles of that would be at the track, which adds up to about 500 street miles. To each their own. I will get another pair of the 01's just because of the feel. I don't care if I lose about 1,000 miles from the PR4's.

2.2k miles is borderline unusually fast wear.

What tire pressures are you using? 475# bike + 235# rider would suggest tire pressures in the 36/37psi range.

Owners manual specs 36f & 42r and that's what I run them at, maybe a lb lower occasionally. Just got 2800 out of a set of Raodtec 01s. Front went first on those but the rear was at wear marks. Currently 350 into a set of M7RRs.

I know the book/spec might say 42psi but this is the max pressure. Max pressure usually only called for with x-heavy bikes or with x-heavy passenger.

For solo on your CB919 you might experiment with pressures more 36psi front and 38psi rear range.

Thx Robbie, I'll give it a try with these since they're almost new and see how it goes. It would always be nice to get a few more miles. These new M7RRs are riding a little harder then the previous, may make them a hair more comfortable too.

I get about 4k out of a rear S21 on a 127hp/55torque bike. They are also cheapest in class and perform very well. Guess that's why i've run them for my last 3 sets.
