On the first day of Xmas I got engaged and now we're trying to figure out where to go for our honeymoon. We definitely want to go to the Caribbean and dive and want an "all inclusive" set up where everything is paid for (room, meals, diving, airfare, etc). We where looking at Sandals but I can't help thinking there is better out there. Less "hotel" like and more personal.

I'd been on a couple trips that unfortunately someone else spent much time planning for the group but it was great. Like rooms on the beach, 3 meals, 2-3 boat dives unlimited shore dives (gear provided if needed). You kinda get what I'm shooting for?

I'm thinking that there are places out there that provide packages like what we're looking for, just don't know what's good or even how to go about researching this.

I'm sure there's a huge amount of experience out there among you. Any suggestions?

Consider Honduras, send Charmed or Kim a PM they're there now.

My neighbor just returned, he said he was pretty sure he was going to die on the boatride out there but quickly forgot about it upon his arrival.
I'll see if I can get the info and shoot you a PM.

I've been looking into booking a trip to Belize or St. Maarten, both great destinations to dive. I keep hearing great things about the food in St. Maarten. Sorry I can't speak from experience, but the limited research I've done in search of a travel destination have led me to these two locations.

Best vacation I ever had was a private yacht charter (with crew) out of St. Thomas. It was about a week, live-aboard with all meals provided and various stops for shopping and sightseeing, and you could scuba or snorkel from the boat. This was a motor yacht but there are also many sail-powered.

That was MANY years ago, dunno what the offerings are like now.

St. Thomas itself is very crowded, you don't want to stay here. I've also vacationed in St. Croix which was very nice.

I can only not recommend Guadalupe, Dominica, and Martinique. They were fun and all but I won't go back.

As an alternative to the Caribbean you might want to look in to the Phillippines. Fantastic diving and beaches. Food is better there than the Caribbean too. Just something to consider.

Shady people? Curious there, but advice taken.

Really curious about that ;-)

Keep 'em coming, I'm googling all the places you're mentioning. She would like to go somewhere other than where one of has been which weeds out Honduras, Belize, Jamaica, and Costa Rica. So many choices!

I was part of a 48 foot catamaran crew. We started out from Guadalupe and made our way to Martinique. We were supposed to end up at Saint Lucia, the highlight of our trip but plans changed. Guadeloupe had nice beaches that were clean but Dominica's beaches had a lot of trash and many beached and rusting ships. Martinique where we were was ok but nothing memorable. I was not at all impressed with any of the food we ate on any of the islands. If there is good Caribbean food I haven't had any yet.

Regarding the diving. One thing I noticed was how sterile most if the sea was where we were anchored. The places were overfished long ago it seems. Water was crystal clear and warm but had hardly any life in it unless you dived/snorkeled in a reserve, and then it was pretty amazing. We were told that the diving in Dominica was fantastic in the reserve but never hot to go because me and my gf at the time were the only divers on our boat or any of the other five cats that were with us. All they wanted to do was get drunk the whole time.

We liked Club Med, all inclusive and the "extras" are dirt cheap. It's been a few years but we had a fun time.

I can't speak about the diving, but as just places to visit my favorites are Barbados and Tortola. Got to agree that I'd give St. Thomas a pass.
