Local Amputee Riders--Want A Free Moto-Compatible Prosthetic?

Hey BARF,
Long time no see.

I've been working for a biomaterials place that has an artist in residence. They want to make a one off, custom lower-leg prosthesis from lab-grown biomaterials and the usual steel, etc. Want to work with us and get a free prosthetic? Part of the dream is to build one that works on a bike... likely a time-consuming process, but the result would be pretty cool.

I figure since this is a non-profit project it's acceptable, but mods, have no qualms killing this if not.

The ask would be what skill sets are you looking for? Is this general labor you're requesting?

How much time is involved on how many days? I know it's hard to say but an estimate would be good info.

Unfortunately I don't have a time estimate. I would guess at least a couple of in-lab visits to take measurements, try shapes, etc. and then to test the finished product.

The biomaterials would come into play to produce the shape and surface of the prosthetic; if it works as planned, it would create a more aesthetically pleasing and sustainable alternative to current 3D-printed prosthetic limbs.

Nemo... this is super cool. :thumbup

EBD would be a great choice from my perspective too.
I am happy to PM him.. He is in the east bay, where is the Lab??

That might make a difference to him.

Beat me to it! I immediately thought of East Bay Dave.
You also might talk with Mert Lawwill (very approachable) who has designed prosthetic hands for riders.
