so..2 motos in the bed is a little more than my truck can handle without upgrades (tie bar in the front of the bed, plus some helper springs, at minimum).
instead, i chose to go the small trailer route, as i won't ALWAYS be carrying two. picked up a 4x8 (folding) harbor freight trailer for ~$220, and a chock for $40 (the better one). the torsional rigidity of the trailer is minimal, so i'm setting up the trailer to carry one bike, and put the other (lighter) one in the truck.
bought it in may, and did all the bolting together in july, to have the bare frame sitting on its' wheels. had the decking cut around the same time, and got it titled and plated...but never bothered finishing it, till last week i realized i need it ready just after turkey day, so thrash away i go.
it's probably overbuilt for the rated capacity of the frame (~1100lbs), but it's 2 sheets each of 3/4" plywood, about a dozen 3/8" bolts mounting each sheet to the bed. still need to mount the chock, and the rear tie down loops; the front eyebolts (1/2") bolt through a 1/2"x4' piece of angle iron under the bed (also bolted to the frame), and the chock will mount to another piece of angle iron as well. waiting on a few more eyebolts to tie down the ramps, as i'll be able to unload the second bike without unhitching the trailer.
didn't think to get nylock nuts to bolt the plywood to the bed, so i instead welded the nuts to the bolts; they won't vibrate loose, but i'll have to grind the bolt off if i need to change plywood. down the road want to look into larger wheels to replace the 12" it came with.
(and yes, my garage is a mess...mods, feel free to move to general moto chat if the photo to text ration is a little low for moto photos)
