Lightning Strike e-bike

Junkie

gone for now
as the article says, 35min requires a DC fast charger rather than "just" a 230V charger

that's a pretty damn good price

Yeah I'd love to sit at the "gas station" for 35 minutes every 100 miles. (because let's be real, you ain't going 150 miles and you won't risk it past 120 before you stop at the next plug you see).

No thanks.

And, the price, which is the real jaw-dropper: $13k. For reference, the Zero S 14.4 will do 120 combined-cycle miles, and is $14k; with the power tank it will do 150 combined, and is $17k. If Lightning can undercut zero by several thousand dollars, that's a pretty big deal. (of course, no confirmation yet that the 150 miles is the combined-cycle number...)

Richard is committed.

I wonder if the mad scientist across the street from me did this engine too?

Whatever that means
I'll believe it when they are on the road in the hands of owners. I hope its real. Competition is good.

I commute 60 miles a day. Sometimes I go for rides but they rarely exceed 100 miles. This is perfect for me.

Also, I hate stopping at gas stations. Electric motorcycle would be way more convenient as it's topped off every night.

YUP.

I have a zero FXS for my city commute, about 20ish miles round trip and its very nice to not have to visit a gas station. I can even get to and from work for 2 days without pluggin it in at home.

I would like more range and shorter recharge times for when I'm not working.

Yup. You just have to have the right application. I ride an Alta for three hours of single track, come home, plug it in, repeat. Oh, lube the chain and adjust the tire pressure. Pretty sweet.

I'm curious what "starting price" of 13K really means.

If it's like Tesla, where the Model 3 is "35K" but they only actually manufacture the 50K version then it's not so good. Then again, there are only so many options you can put on a motorcycle.

And also, according to LinkedIn they have 15 employees and aren't hiring anyone.

Zero, in comparison, has 200 employees..

Kinda suspect.

Looks like 2019 will be battle of electric bikes. I wonder what ever happened to that mini they had at Refuel. Why dont' they sell that? I've never seen anyone actually ride the Lightning bikes also. =/

Looks cool, probably vaporware. I'd love to see it happen but it seems unlikely.

Those are some lofty goals hopefully they can achieve. I know for the lightning LS-218 the range they listed was for freeway speed so hopefully that range is at freeway speed as well.
