RIP rider killed by hit and run driver 1:40 am on 80 in Richmond

Suisun City man arrested in hit-and-run death in Richmond
A Suisun City man allegedly killed a motorcyclist when he crashed into him while driving drunk in Richmond early Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Kevin Mauricio Paredes-Orozco, 31, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a hit-and-run on Interstate 80.

CHP officers observed a Toyota Highlander speeding at about 100 miles per hour near Cutting Boulevard at about 1:40 a.m., and attempted to pull the vehicle over, CHP officials said.

But the driver continued, striking a motorcyclist. The driver, identified later as Paredes-Orozco, did not attempt to stop following the crash, even though the impact sent the cyclist flying from his motorcycle.

Article just says DUI and speeding, nothing about racing. That stretch of I-80 is a shit show. Very little enforcement of any type. I live near where it happened and I have seen 1 CHP in 6 years of using that stretch of road.

The CAD log shows what 911 callers have told the CHP dispatcher, who passes it along to officers on the street. In this case, it's "PER A WIT[ness]". It's not an assessment of facts from an officer.

I'm sorry but this poor guy was under no obligation to change when he decided to ride on a public roadway to accommodate Mr. hammered asshole. I totally get where you're coming from and it's common sense. But in the bigger picture it's the principle of it that burns me.

One of the comments on the CHP Facebook page claims that the motorcyclist was on his way home from his second job as a security guard when he was hit. So he wasn't just out riding around after midnight for shits and giggles.
