Usually you either draw cards or collect sealed envelopes with (5 to 7) cards along the route. At the finish, your hand is tabulated and the highest poker hand wins a prize or pot.

I went to the LEGEND of the MOTORCYCLE event in HMB instead of this ride.. had a great time. Met up with a group at Alice's (4 corners) and a huge police-escorted ride went by (westbound).. it just HAD to be this LEO run.. anyhow after it passed by, toward downtown La Honda.. of course, then the sirens started heading toward them.. we rode down (since we were going that way to get to HMB), we ended up getting turned around before we reached town.. bikes all over the road.. looked pretty bad. I don't know if it was a fatal.. I didn't stop to ask.

Our group had to head back up to 4 corners and north on Skyline to 92 West.. what a drag.. the traffic sucked on 92 (when doesn't it?).

Being on the coast in HMB at the LEGEND event was chilly (glad I had me leathers on) and pretty crowded.. nice showing. Glad I had free tix though! They were like $60 each.. ouch! We met Jason Lee (Earl from "My Name is Earl") and Giovanni Ribisi (another bit actor).. both were very cool and laid back. I got a buzz on free scotch, had an overpriced ($16) chicken sandwich and got to see some awesome classic and custom bikes. Someone told me Jessie James and Sandra Bullock were there, but I didn't see them at all.

It was a chilly ride home. We hung out for a few hours longer than I would have liked.. waiting to get back to a 0.00 BAC. :teeth

I saw them roll by through saratoga up the frontside of 9. When I got to STP, found a SMSO blocking 84 to the coast. Had a sinking feeling that it might be riders down on the LEO poker run. Hope there were no fatalities.

Impressive showing of bikes. Literally, it sounded like rolling thunder, and there were ALOT of bikes. Good thing police escorts kept things going.

According to a friend that was involved in organizing the LEO ride..
265 registered participants and...

"During the ride, there was a serious collision between one of the charity ride participants and a motorcyclist heading in an opposite direction resulting in very multiple serious injuries. Another rider stopped and rendered aid until paramedics arrived and ultimately 2 of the worst injured were airlifted to Stanford Hospital."

I hope they all recover.
