Learn me some Honda 1kRR

I might be picking up a 2008 Cbr1000RR with 6k miles on it. I don't think it had any oil burn issues like some did but there seems to be a hiccup/slight stutter mid RPM. I'm unsure if it just needs new plugs or if it's a tune issue, or just because it didn't get ridden very hard and needs to get a work out, it's really not that bad just something that was noticed. The bike is 100% stock.

Any other issues with the 2008 bikes? And where is the recommended shop for Hondas in the east bay? Would like a tune up and a once over if picked up. Thanks.

What RPM and how big of a "hiccup" are we talking? Not sure if it's similar with the CBR's, but I know on certain R1's there's a flat/dead spot on the rev range (IIRC around 5k RPM) where if you whack the throttle open it takes a second for the bike to get up 'n go. Flashing the ECU takes care of the issue. Just a thought.

I took my bike to Fastline Cycles in Fremont for a dyno tune. Alex is a super knowledgeable and nice guy. Definitely no BS with him. Couldn't recommend him enough.

Not as fast as I look.
You need to describe this better. I still have this bike. I will start helping with the following:

A. The variable exhaust is pretty obvious at particular RPMs. If at a lower rpm and you quickly add a lot of throttle, there is a hesitation.

B. I had some bad gas that made the bike virtually unrideable. It took a very long time to get the injectors clean. You should dump the current gas and add some GOOD injector cleaner / Octane boost for at least a tankful. Get the thing above 10k rpm for a bit, every time you ride.

C. Check your chain tension. All bikes can suffer from mis-adjusted chains.

D. What "tuning" would you do? This is a modern ECU bike. Unless a part has been changed, the air cleaner and the plugs are about the only "tuning". It won't need a valve adjustment, yet, and it shouldn't need either plugs or air cleaner. Although, you could do the cleaner just for the heck of it. EDIT: I suppose idle adjustment and throttle adjustment could count toward tuning, but those shouldn't create your problem. I seriously doubt that the timing is off, but anything is possible, I suppose.

My 8.2 Euros. Best.

I had an '08, mine never burned oil fortunately. There was a recall on the clutch which the dealer took care of no charge, might want to see if that has been done.

Worth every Euro! Especially about the tune, I've yet to change plugs with 12k, just oil and tires.
Never noticed any hesitation but then I'm apprehensive about full throttle in the 4 lower gears.

I had an 09. Great bike.

For some reason the 08 has different wiring harness than 09. Something you might be want to be aware.

You rang? :laughing

Get those valve clearances checked, along with the usual other things: air filter, oil change, plugs, etc.

I loved my '08 (before the engine needed a rebuild @ 12k thanks to shitty manufacturing). It actually made me a better rider. I still have it; it's getting a refresh for spring since it's been in storage for awhile. They're great handling bikes, good brakes, bodywork is like origami...just a couple of side fairing bolts, everything else is tab A into slot B. Good midrangy motor, keep in mind that the US versions are neutered on the top-end compared to the Euro models. A Bazzaz Z-Bomb (like what I just sold) or an ecu flash will claw some of this missing hp back.

Sweet. Thanks guys. I just need a decent shop local to me to take it to if I pick it up to have a once over done.

I have a 2011, which is the same gen. 20k miles, no issues, burns a little oil at high rpms (above 8k). It definitely should not have a hiccup at at thru the rpm range.

I also think Alex at Fastline Cycles is dah bomb.

That's it Jon. In Fremont. Let me know if he doesn't get back to you and we can ping him on his cell.

WTF? We are not even going to find out where and when this hiccup happens? So, disappointed. This was my big chance as a would-be online mechanic. :ride

I installed the Dynojet widget, which works just as advertised to fix the neutered top end. I still think these bikes run lean in the upper rpm, however. If I had raced this bike I would have remapped the fueling.
