Learn me some car audio

Now that the divorce is final, I've got a nice settlement and since things went decently well (no lawyer fees and the like), I think I might "treat" myself to some nice car audio for my truck. I have a 2015 Ram 1500. I am pretty much a total n00b at this. I want to purchase the subs/speakers myself and perhaps have a shop professionally install them. I'm not looking for top of the line or anything and the stock sound system is already good on the truck. My budget is no more than $1000. Ok go.

I'd get a single channel amp for some subs and leave the speakers powered by the display/radio. It's been a long time since ive shopped for this stuff but if i remember correctly, the multichannel amps that are supposed to power your speakers and subs are trash. If you feel the need to buy an amp for the speakers too buy a seperate amp.

Do some googling, rms, impedance, etc etc are things that be important.

Learn how to do it yourself. I've seen way too many hack jobs by "professional" shops.

Guys like frozenuts are few and far between.

Why not buy a different car that comes with a good stereo system or find a way to get a quieter car so you don't have to bang on it so loud. Riding motos is bad enough for your ears.

Subs are for high schoolers and gang bangers. Pass.

+1 to hack jobs. I had a reputable shop do mine (when I was in high school) and when I finally learned how to do it myself I saw the crap job they did and the corners they cut (literally and figuratively).

Its Dethklok!
I went through crutchfield for my f-150. Stereo w/sat + 4 speakers. They send really good directions, wiring kit and trim. I was pleasantly suprised.

Uh, these days pretty much every car comes with 1 or 2 subs from the factory

So, hardly just for "gang bangers"

You can't get decent sound in a car without them.

^ Also having subs doesn't mean you have to drop 6 12"s in there to wake up everyone in a 5 mile radius. A nice 8" in a sealed box can add another dimension to the music quality

You'd be surprised how much an amp on door speakers helps with the lows/mids. You can skip the subs unless you need that trunk rattling back vibrating bass. Nothing beats a car that was manufactured with an audio specialist in mind to get the most from the tiny speakers and sound reflection.

I was thinking OP wanted some JBL's like a W12. I had an acquaintance who ported two in to the cab of a pick up truck and you could get nose bleeds after a few minutes from the sound pressure and literally you could feel it in the car next to you at highway speed.

I'm all for a sub but they are a hassle, take up room, and hard to beat the decent OE stereo set ups that are hassle free and out of the way.

A solid set of 6" door speakers and tweeters and replace what ever the truck has in the back (door speakers?) and amp those as well with a good crossover. It will bump real good and not give you a headache after an hour in the vehicle. Most of your sound comes form front tweeters and door speakers in a properly set up audio system. The rear fills in some and isn't as important as the sound that is in front of you.

I don't know any "decent" OE system that doesn't have subs. If they're giving you more than 8 speakers, at least one of them is going to be a sub. It could be a little 4" or 6" unit built into the floor under the seat like my car has, or built into the trunk walls. Subs don't need to be big.

It's tough to get both low-end deep bass (20-40 Hz) and mid-range frequencies out of a door speaker. That's why subs are good.

And with your home system, if all you've got are bookshelf speakers, you're not getting anything under 40-45 Hz out of them.

You're right. I have a 8" OEM sub and it takes care of what the other 14 speakers don't do.

4x1000W Zapco's each to their own 15" driver, in the bed. Make the bed a giant woofer, mini-truckin' style.

So, you can can say, "goodmorning, world, fuck you." :twofinger

One thing I'll say is, don't let your license plate rattle. That's the sign of a true ghetto dweeb amateur motherfucker.
