Owners chime in. I know this one isn't a smoker as of yet, only 5k miles on it. I've ridden it a few times, the bars are buzzy but, besides that any other complaints or concerns I should know about?

That said, the 2008-on CBR1000RR's make excellent streetbikes. Great midrange (The US models are restricted. You can get a bit of top-end back with either a Bazzaz Z-Bomb or an ECU reflash, awesome stock brakes and Showa suspension pieces, and a front end that provides excellent feedback. Too bad Honda skimped on the piston rings and cylinder plating, hence the infamous oil-burners.

PS: Oh and have fun with the bodywork. That shit fits together like plastic origami. :rofl

So taking the fairing off for oil changes and things like that is a pain? Also when do oil burn issues show up? Or is it either do or don't?

It came be a chore until you develop a procedure for which fairings to pull. Then it's not so bad.

Oil burning is spotty...some bikes develop it sooner, some later, some never. Thing is you never know.

Hooli - still bitter huh?

I have a 2011. Only burns oil at the track, when revs are high, like above 7500. For one trackday it might burn 4 oz or so.

the MC sucks ass. easy fix, get a brembo MC.

I don't hafta undo the fairings for an oil change, but I don't have man hands like some.

I have about 19k on it now, haven't had any issues so far, except for user error.

What is the recommended oil for it? Some run 20W50 others 10W40? What do you guys recommend?

Not as fast as I look.

This is all true. I think the plastics are a pita. REALLLLY! Mine burns a little oil, but nothing like others have had.

I think he has a right to be pissed-off.
I agree about the master cylinder. I have had bad fade experiences with the last two Hondas and it has been the MC, despite some claims to Honda brake wonderfulness.
I don't know how you do the filter without removing the fairing, but you can do mine and show me. :teeth

Same as other bikes. I wouldn't use 20-50 on the street.

I had on '08, fairings weren't difficult to take off. They just interlock so you need to know which way to pull to unhook them, after you do it once its easy. Mine never burned any oil for the 10k miles I rode it.

Overall I loved the bike, no complaints. Got rid of it since I was taking a break from riding for a little while otherwise I would still have it. I'd probably change the sprockets if I were to get a sport bike since first gear is so tall.

Here was mine:

Oh did I mention I replaced the stocker with an RCS a couple months in? :teeth

But the stock pads and rotors were good enough for even my slow ass 'B' pace. :laughing

moto's are meditation
"Hey bro, your bike smells like oil"
....

"Yea...i know"

*takes oil bottle out from under the rear seat and pours some in the engine*

"Good for a few hundred more miles now"

Other that that, my second most favorite bike ever(next to my spy plane). Best ergos, best torque placement. Ride it like a superstar.

Just giving Hooli a hard time. I know what that bike has done to him.
