Laguna and Moto Theft

Giuseppe

Thats how you stick it!
Just a friendly reminder that when you head to Monterey this weekend always try to keep an eye on your bikes and valuables.

I use to live in Monterey and in the Monterey Herald you would always see articles on the thefts of bikes and valuables the days following the GP.

POOP!!!
Lock it or risk losing it.

I would imagine that both bike fans and thieves have their calendars marked for MotoGP at Laguna Seca.

yep, I've heard several times about people getting bikes ripped off at the race and cannery row.:(

If someone is seen stealing a bike, kindly beat them into the ground....repeatedly....till it's just a gooey mess....the stomp for a while till the red goes away.

I have a rotor lock... now I'm nervous about going down there... any suggestions on additional measures beyond the rotor lock?

I usually bring a heavy duty cable lock and lock my bike together to a buddy's bike...

Lock it to another bike or to something stationary - disc locks and wheel chains are no match for skateboards.... :cry

best thing you can do is lock 2 or more bikes together to something stationary, then put a cover on each bike.

just remember, no anti-theft measure is 100% effective. just think about making them work harder for it.

There's also:

Ride bikes thieves don't like...

At Laguna itself, park next to a bright shiny Ducati.

Someone stole the whole seat units off our Ducs a few years back at what was the DoubleTree. Stupid design enables it to be taken in about 2 seconds if it's stock. Made for a toasty ride home.

Oh and if you ride any Ducati with Dzus fasteners, your fairings can be swiped in 20 seconds.

If you have a Scotts damper, I would remove it.

see thats why i said bike cover.

they have ones that you can put alock throuhg the bottom.

it wont actually keep someone from stealing things off your bike, but if they dont see it in the first place, its less likely to get stolen.

I used to fill the bolt holes on my Scott's with silicone...

We should start a thread and make it a sticky on "Theft Prevention"...

4 wheel dollys (basically 2x4's with caster wheels) are used often
They can support more weight, easier to move and two guys wearing dickies and a van with a fake sign on it can make it look like nothing out of the normal is going on

I worked the parking detail there 2 years ago. It's pretty much an unguarded free for all.

Engrave your drivers license number on the frame rail under your seat. The more visible locks you have on the bike, the better. Thieves don't want hassles. They go for the easy mark. They can steal an unlocked bike with a screwdriver and be gone in 10 seconds.
